She’s here to complain, she’s here to entertain….. IT’S GAMILLA……along with her alien Zoot.

What is your earliest memory connected to music?

I remember music always playing in my house as a little kid. Either through speakers or MTV.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

Listening to bands like Led Zeppelin and Green Day as a little kid made me want to learn how to play guitar. I started writing funny lyrics when I was like 5 years old. I also remember the movie School of Rock really left an impact in me. I started taking my passion for music seriously after discovering Nirvana at 13 years old.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

It started as a project for my last year of college. I was supposed to make an EP and I knew there are many things I want to write about later, but I still didn’t know what theme I wanted for my first project that would really represent me. Then it hit me, the thing I’m always complainign about…my days at an all girl Catholic School. I liked the EP so I decided to polish it and add a bit more songs so it could be an album. That’s how Catholic School Girl was born.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

Space grunge and punk inspired by aliens, the 90s, and bodies of water.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

My favorite thing is different guitar tunings, like DADGAD, drop D, or fully drop everything down a full step.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

Either my guitar or a notebook. I don’t like writing lyrics on my phone.

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

Slater, The Garden, Puzzle…I love Vada Vada.

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

I think they always have because my lyrics are almost entirely personal. However, recently my education at Berklee College of Music and being surrounded by different types of musicians have definitely influenced my music positively. Going on long walks often inspires me as well. I have also expanded my guitar pedal board.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

I hope my listeners can relate and feel understood. I want them to always be their most authentic self and demand respect from people that think they’re superior.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

Patience and discipline.

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

Coachella and Glastonbury!

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

Kurt Cobain because he is my favorite artist of all time. I especially love his lyrics and chord progressions.

I would like to start performing my debut album live and reach more people. Hopefully make an EP and a sophomore album!

What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?

I have an alien called Zoot. I also laugh a lot despite being angry in most of my songs.
