Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Juanse Berenguer

Lover awakened to life, to people, to the countless forms of nature, to the blue and white sky, the yellow sun, the flowers and the wild fields; to the defiant humanity with its arts, crafts, and generous letters; to the crickets and to poetry, to eternal music and infinite silence, to the jealous stars and the enchanted moon, to the mystery of existing and living in this round world — in dream and in wakefulness, where poets and dogs bark, and birds build their nests in magic trees.
What is your earliest memory connected to music?
When I was five I had a guitar teacher that started me on my way into music, although I was born in a home where music was normal. My mother plays classical piano music, and when she played Beethoven, I just started to cry. I think I was too sensitive to music — enough to feel the sadness of Ludwig as a child. Also, when my parents went to work, they left me in the care of my grandfather, and we listened to classical and tango music while he painted. Being a soloist in the college chorus was also a turning point.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
When I was 15, I discovered The Beatles. And that was it.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
I am now on a trip to make a Latin American tour with my last album “En Busca de Una Canción.” In the meantime, I am searching for the right studio to make a new album — different. My story is my life; my love songs are crying to get out. My inspiration for this new album is the infinite consciousness clashing with reality — the search for the perfect wave, the way of magic, rock ’n’ roll people.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
Home.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
Always play from the heart; you are your only audience. Fame does not matter.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
My piano, my guitars, and a notebook to write down poetry. Also, a recording device to listen to what is going on.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
I have a love for music that keeps me living and it is the reason why I keep on going. I could die happily if someone changed for the better, felt better, felt freer, and felt the magic of music.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
Peace and love.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
Discipline. Love for people. Love for life.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
Madison Square Garden, River Plate Stadium, Lollapalooza, Glastonbury.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
John Lennon, George Harrison, and Paul McCartney — because they still appear in my dreams. They are true geniuses.
Fito Páez, Gustavo Cerati, Luis Alberto Spinetta, Charly García — because they are gods of music.
Oasis, Steinwolke, Scorpions, The Killers, Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Elvis, Ray Charles, Elton John, Dua Lipa, Coldplay, John Mayer, Eric Clapton, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Harry Styles, Brad Mehldau.
