MUSIC FOR YOUR EARS | REVIEW Oh Papa By Chris St. John

The track Oh Papa, comes from the third album from this prolific artist Chris St.
John. The release of this album follows his previous very successful LP, Fly Away.
Chris St. John is a singer, songwriter and guitarist, who offers a wide range of genres
and styles within the same album. In turn this diversity has led to acclaim from a variety
of sources and his albums featuring on the World Indie Music Charts and Euro Indie
Music Network.
The song Oh Papa is a poignant tribute to a loved one who has passed away. It
captures the emotions and memories associated with the loss of that loved one,
specifically the singer’s father. The lyrics beautifully express the deep longing, sorrow,
and the lasting impact that the departed individual had on their life. The use of ‘Papa’
throughout the song creates a sense of familiarity and a strong emotional connection to
the subject of the song.
Oh Papa offers an indie-rock melody with elements of country and folk, perfect
to reflect the emotions expressed, while the lyrics are relatable to many who have lost a
father. The music takes on an almost therapeutic role, as the singer works through his
feelings, memories and sense of loss. The guitar is warm and haunting, perfectly
mirroring the pure sound of the vocals.
This is a most impressive release from a singer-songwriter who is growing in
fame and recognition. His output is prolific; he says himself this was to be an EP but he
continued to write, so was able to launch this LP.
For any listener who has not yet had the opportunity to feel the moving qualities
evoked by this track, I strongly recommend that they do so without delay. The music is
both haunting and comforting, the guitar perfectly complements the vocals, and the
artist is a revelation who deserves the great recognition than he has already received.
Definitely an experience not to be missed.
