‘Silhouette’ is Alba Rose’s first full body of work under her solo artistic identity. With her debut single ‘Eve’ released on the 27th of August accompanied by her first music video
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6p1iRUwBmI) and her EP set for release for the 12th of November 2021, the creative process for Silhouette has been in the works for just under a year.

Key themes present within the EP include learning to let go, accept what is, and learning to refocus energy into the good things in life. The title ‘Silhouette’ embraces the idea that with the light there is always the dark. One must learn to accept the dark in order to grow and move forward. It is used as a metaphor for perspective signifying all the emotions of growth and change. Alba is a Spanish word which translates to English to mean ‘the first light of the early dawn’, with the title Silhouette used to indirectly play on the meaning of Alba.

A self-produced compilation of tracks with three of the four songs mixed by London-based Jim Macrae (Jordan Rakei, Leifur James, Arjuna Oaks) and one song mixed by Serebii (Serendipity). The EP has been tracked and mastered at Wellington studio ‘PureSound Studios’ by Bravo Bonez with Rose’s band performing on all tracks (also Wellington-based) consisting of ex New Zealand School of Music students Rory Johns (keys), Elijah Mulheron (double bass) and Rafe Swan (drums).

Surrounding the release of the EP Alba is set to go on a small New Zealand tour in cities of Auckland, Hawkes Bay and Wellington. With an eventful summer lined up performing at leading indie summer festivals (Tora Bombora, Le Currents) and events around the North Island, Alba is ” progressively on her way to becoming one of the most prominent voices in the indie-pop music scene south of the Equator”.

Alba can be recognised through her previous experience leading indie-pop band ‘Corduroy’, in which she toured across NZ playing sold-out shows, performed at leading summer festivals (Rhythm & Vines, Bay Dreams, TSB Festival of Colour) and supported international artists (Great Gable, Spacey Jane). Her solo project began in the early part of 2021, with eclectic compositions that incorporate soul, jazz, and indie influences drawing inspirations from the likes of Badbadnotgood, Lianne La Havas, Cleo Sol, Roy Ayres, Erykah Badu, Alice Phoebe Lou, old school jazz, soul & hip hop and modern day indie/alt-pop.

Much is on the way for this rising New Zealand artist. Check out her debut EP to be a part of where it all began.
