Formula Indie Sessions – Interview with Davide de Vargas
What is your earliest memory connected to music?
Music has always been connected to memories for me. Certain songs instantly take me back to a place, a person or a particular moment in my life. I think, that connection between music and memory is probably one of the reasons I started writing songs and creating music myself.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
It started with the desire tu turn personal experiences into songs. I realized, that moments I coultn’t always describe in conversations became much easier to express through music. Once I created the first songs and heard my own stories come alive, I was hooked.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
It is basically a music diary. Many of my songs begin with something that really happened – an encounter, a journey, someone I miss, a goodby, a summer night or simply a conversation that stayed with me. I take those moments and turn them into stories that hopefully feel familiar to other people too.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
Emotional, melodic singer-songwriter feel. Some songs are intimate and melanchonlic build around voice and piano while others have that warm, uplifting summer feeling. The common threads is always melody, emotion and storytelling. I like to think of my songs as little soundtracks to memories.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
That simplicity is incredibly powerful. I used to think a song needed more words, more production and more complexity to be interesting. I’ve learned, that sometimes one simple melody, one honest sentence and a voice that really carries the emotion can be much more powerful.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
Techonology plays an important role in my creative process. I use AI-based music tools, particularly Suno, as part of the production process and combine them with my own ideas, stories, lyrics and creative direction. For me, technology is a way of turning ideas that exist in my head into actual music. The starting point, hower, is always a story or an emotion that i turned into lyrics.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
I’m really enjoying Blooz Room at the moment. I love how they combine strong melodies, emotion and modern technology to create something with ist own identity. Their approach to both music and visuals is really inspiring, especially because they’re exploring new ways of creating and presenting music.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
Almost completely. Travels, relationships, unexpected encounters, missing someone, saying goodbye … these are all things I write about. I’m fascinated by those small moments that might seem insignificant when they happen but somehow stay with you for years. That’s probably at the heart of ‘Davide de Vargas’
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
I really want people to recognize a piece of their own life in a song. Maybe it reminds them of someone they once loved, a summer they didn’t want to end or a goodbye the still remember. If a listener hears one of my songs and thinks “I felt exactly like that” then the song has done what I wanted it to do.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
That emotion matters more than perfection. A technically perfect song doesn’t necessarily stay with you. A simple song that makes you feel something can stay with you for years.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
Ibiza would have to be part of that dream. But not necessarily a festival – more as a venue in a rooftop bar or a beach club. The island has become my second home and is connected to my music through ‘Dancing in Ibiza’ and performing it there on a warm summer night would be a very special moment.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
Someone from the emotional / melodic singer-songwriter world – maybe Ed Sheeran or James Blunt – he is also connected to Ibiza somehow.

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
I want to keep developping the identity and release music that people immediately connect with ‘Davide de Vargas’. I want to keep telling stories – sometimes through an intimate piano song, sometimes through a melodic summer track – and hopefully reach more and more people who connect with those stories.
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
That behind every song there is a story. I hope they’ll discover, that Davide de Vargas isn’t about creating a perfect image. It’s about collecting moments, people and places and turning them into music. In the end, I hope the songs feel a litlle like memories of their own.
