Formula Indie Sessions – Interview with Kapes

Kapes is the artistic project of Italian DJ and producer Fabio Caposano, who has been shaping dancefloors since 2010.
Originally from central Italy, Kapes developed his sound through the influence of the Scandinavian progressive house movement, later evolving into a distinctive blend of house music, electronic grooves and darker underground textures.
In 2017, his track Metropolis was featured by DJ Mag Italy, marking an important milestone in his artistic journey. Since then, he has continued to release original music, collecting thousands of streams across digital platforms and earning support from DJs around the world.
His career has taken him to some of Italy’s most exclusive venues and events, as well as internationally. Over the last three consecutive years, Kapes has performed in both Ibiza and Alghero, including appearances at the iconic Tantra Ibiza, bringing his energetic and refined sound to audiences from across Europe.
Driven by a clear artistic vision, Kapes recently launched Residencia Records, an independent label created to showcase forward-thinking house music while building a community around fresh talent and quality electronic music.
With new releases, international collaborations, label showcases and ambitious projects already in the pipeline, Kapes continues to expand his vision, establishing himself as one of the emerging names in the new generation of Italian electronic music.
What is your earliest memory connected to music?
I’ve been surrounded by music for as long as I can remember. When I was a kid, my parents would play songs on the stereo that had me singing and dancing around the house. Even back then, I already had my favorite tracks.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
It all started when I discovered Avicii’s original tracks and remixes. I instantly fell in love with electronic music, and that’s when I realized I wanted to create music myself.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
My goal is simple: to perform at the best clubs and festivals around the world while sharing my music and my vision of what an unforgettable dancefloor experience should feel like.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
A Kapes track can be a high-energy tech house dancefloor banger, a more melodic and vocal-driven record with strong radio appeal, or even a darker, deeper track with slower BPMs. There’s always variety, but everything stays connected to the same musical identity.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
Quality and originality will always pay off in the long run.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
I started producing with Logic Pro, and I still use it today. I feel completely at home with it, and at this point I can’t imagine switching to another DAW.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
Ironically, I don’t really listen to much Italian music. I mostly enjoy international pop, and some of my favorite artists are The Weeknd, Harry Styles, and Justin Bieber.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
Playing in clubs abroad has had a huge influence on my productions. It helped me develop a more international approach and pushed me to bring my sound closer to the artists leading today’s house music scene.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
I hope my music gives people good vibes. Whether they’re dancing at home, partying with friends, or simply relaxing by the beach or the pool with my more radio-friendly tracks, I want my music to become part of those moments.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
I think today’s music industry moves incredibly fast. There’s so much content being released that it’s easy to lose focus on quality. I’d love to see a little more freedom, authenticity, and enjoyment in the way music is created and experienced.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
Ultra Music Festival is definitely at the top of my list. Performing at Ushuaïa Ibiza would also be an incredible achievement.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
Right now, my dream collaboration would be writing a song for The Weeknd to sing. If I could choose someone from the past, it would definitely be Michael Jackson. Both artists have had an incredible impact on music and continue to inspire generations.
Where can our listeners follow and support your music? (Website,Spotify, IG, links)
You can find me on all major platforms, including Spotify, Instagram, YouTube, and every major streaming service. This is all my links: linktr.ee/kapesdj
Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
I want to bring my music to as many places and as many people as possible, whether through streaming platforms or live performances around the world.
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
I hope people discover an artist who genuinely loves music in all its forms and who always puts the audience’s enjoyment first.
