What is your earliest memory connected to music?

My parents were always listening to music and my dad played guitar while my mom sang.

When I was in Kindergarten (1998),  I stood up in front of the class during “show and tell” and sang Blind Melon’s “No Rain” .  The teacher told my parents about it, and they were as surprised as her that I had the idea . They asked me why I would sing a song in show and tell and I said “I had nothing else to bring.”

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

Luana Moth and French Class are two favorites to see live . An album I’ve been digging is Josephine Network’s “Hooked”. I like Posion Sucker’s new 7”  “Charmer” also.

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

None of your business !  I’m saving it all for my book.  No I’m kidding, half kidding,

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

My music is deeply influenced by my personal experiences, but I think I keep it vague enough.  The cool thing about music, especially the instrumental parts, the improvised guitar playing and stuff,  is that you can be saying something in almost a secret language.  When I am playing  a guitar solo, I’m not thinking about what note to play next, I am thinking about something important to me.  I’m thinking about times and places and most importantly feelings.  Sometimes it’s what I’m feeling in that moment, sometimes it’s some old trauma to work through or sometimes old joy.

The weird thing is, that the audience , though not in on the secret, still somehow understands the language, interpreted through their own lense .  Keeping it vague allows people to translate it how they want and connect it to their own life.

I never did any of this stuff on purpose, it’s just that after 20 years of sharing music with people , you start to notice the patterns you see.

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

I want to perform at the Mosswood Meltdown . They always get all the best acts and John Water’s is one of my favorite artists in the world. I want to thank him for contributing to my wonderful warpedness.

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

I wanna sing a duet with Burton Cummings.  Canada needs this right now.
