NAOMI FALCON & THE DUB COLLECTIVE

What is your earliest memory connected to music?

My parents singing folk songs with me and my brother, that would also be the general first memory of my life.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

In the cradle as a child of musicians, and then it was amplified through traveling and getting out of my comfort zone.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

I was traveling through Europe with my van and my ukulele, and after arriving in Portugal I wanted to grow some roots here so I asked around for musicians to join a reggae project, which I found very  fast.. That is exactly 10 years ago now ☺

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

Good vibes, danceable, a very accessible fusion between reggae, soul, dub,, folk and more , hopeful but brutally honest lyrics mixed with light and positive surfers sound that makes you dream of perfect waves and a better world.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

You never know what opportunity lays in what situations, so you have to always give it your all!

Also, play with musicians that are better than you, they make you outgrow yourself and rise to the occasion.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

In composing only my tenor ukulele or my acoustic guitar and my voice. Sometimes a looostation. And then for arrangements my whole quintet, each one on their instruments. We are an analog band, not much tech besides of course quite some effect pedals etc.

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

Raye, she is the absolute queen!

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

A lot. I chose an alternative lifestyle to not be tangled in societies machinery, a more sustainable path to try and better take care of our planet and our future – that is reflected in the songs I write and the concerts we play.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

To be kind to all humans, animals and the planet that hosts us all, and to find their joy in life

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

Humbleness, self esteem and gratitude

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

Tiny desk concert

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

Ben Harper, he has always been my ultimate vocal  crush and I know we would sing the most amazing duet together
