Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Loman

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
It’s not my earliest memory of music but I remember the moment music kinda became part of my life. I was in an amusement park and when to visit a haunted house. They played Bach’s organ pieces and it blew my mind. I immediately asked my mum to get a CD to play it at home. After that I told her I wanted to play the organ. For obvious reasons it was a complicated wish to realize so she said « it’s gonna be complicated to get an organ but if you want you can learn the piano ».
How did your passion for creating music begin?
My family gathered money to buy me a piano. I started playing classical pieces. But I remember that I fell in love with a melancholic piece for children. A very small piece. So I tried writing a few extra chords and notes to make it longer. I guess that’s when I started writing for real !
What’s the story behind your current music project?
I was in lock down in an empty house on the countryside. I was working remotely but had plenty of time to work on my own projects. So I thought « you keep complaining that you wish you had time to write music so here’s your chance. Try to write an EP by the end of lockdown and see how it sounds ». After lockdown, I had to go back to work. Went back on Monday, quit on Thursday.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
Mmmmh… I would say my songs are usually like paintings. Often with textures. They usually sound melancholic and sometimes with either a spooky or a dreamy vibe.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
To trust myself (and can be a real battle)
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
I usually use Ableton to record my demos. But my writing process keeps changing. Right now I’m only writing with my guitar but before that it was the piano. It keeps changing but the easier the better.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
I’ve been listening a lot to Searows recently
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
I’ve written 3 EPs so far and each of them capture an energy and a state of mind. My last EP is more filled with anger and a need to purge some emotions stuck in my chest I guess
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
I like the idea of dancing with your eyes closed
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
The more you believe in yourself, the better it gets
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
I’m not very good at that. I think at first you want to play at Glastonbury in front of thousands of people but the more you play, the more you know you can have the best experience at a random venue just because the energy and the people are great. While you can play in front of a big audience and just feel nothing or very little.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
Ryuichi Sakamoto would’ve been amazing
Where can our listeners follow and support your music? (Website,Spotify, IG, links)
Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
Playing with a band !
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
I hope they’ll keep enjoying my music even if I take different directions !
