Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Brand New Heroes
Brand New Heroes is an Italian alternative-rock band formed in Florence (Italy) in 2017. At the beginning of 2020, the band signed with Overdub Recordings and entered the studio to start work on their first album, Let It Out, released in October 2021. In 2024, the band signed with Engine Records, returned to the studio and recorded 12 new tracks for the album GET LOST!, released on October 31, 2025.
What is your earliest memory connected to music?
We all started playing at around 16 in a stinky rehearsal room in the basement of the local parish.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
I (Alessio) have always experienced music as a cathartic way to blow off my problems and worries. Some people go to therapy, and I write music.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
In the months following the release of Let It Out, the band experienced the departures of Alessio B. (guitar) and Massimiliano (guitar) due to family reasons, forcing us to take a temporary break. However, we decided to continue with the current lineup rather than replace the missing members and write new material.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
A blend of rock riffs rooted in ’70s classic rock and modern indie rock, with a touch of Californian punk rock.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
Less is more
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
Drums and bass. Those are the only instruments we need right now!
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
Jimmy Eat World, Elliott, Dead From Above 1969, Paramore, Foo Fighters (these last two are not really indie, we know).
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
Sure. Both I (Francesco) and Alessio often use our personal experiences as a blueprint for our lyrics. Music-wise, if I (Alessio) am more stressed or angry, a heavy riff will come out (in the last album, there are a lot of heavy and up-tempo riffs, so make your guesses…)
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
We always hope people can connect with our lyrics and, in some way, find relief through the shared emotions.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
Rehearsals are never enough!
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
Glastonbury, Rock in Rio, Lollapalooza, Rock Am Ring.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
I (Francesco) would choose Robert Plant. For me (Alessio), it’d be Matt Bellamy (Muse). I (Giulio) go against the grain: Cristina D’Avena!
