What is your earliest memory connected to music?

DOZOBWOI:  My earliest memory of music is being a kid and hearing songs play around the house and on the streets. I did not understand lyrics yet but I understood feeling. Music felt like company. It felt like something that stayed when everything else was quiet.

KAMANCHI PRO:  MAN….earliest memory…..man my folks….ma and pops….it was always music floating through the house…Luther Vandross….Eric B and Rakim…Chuck Brown at the cookouts. Music was in my soul from a very young age.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

KAMANCHI PRO: I was about 9 man… LOL….yall not goin believe this…I was 9 and I wrote my first song for my class. I don’t why LOL or how really….i just started writing….LOL…. it didnt even rhyme. It was called “I WILL DO THE LORDS WILL” and I actually did it in class I’m pretty sure. I still remember the words. No I won’t sing it LOL

DOZOBWOI:  It started as curiosity and slowly turned into necessity. I realized I could not always explain myself with normal words, but music let me speak without forcing it. Creating became a way to release what I was carrying inside.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

KAMANCHI PRO: MAN….IT WAS MAGICAL MAN….REALLY IT WAS DOZOBWOI….HES SUCH A GENIUS …..MAN HE GOT THE MELODY SO QUICK…..HE GOT MOST OF THE CHROUS….I FREESTYLED MY PART…AND MAN….I KNEW IT WAS A TIMELESS RECORD FROM THE DEMO. WE WORKED ALMOST EVERYDAY. WE FINISHED WRITING THE RECORD AND PLAN THE STUDIO SESSION. THE SONG WAS DONE BUT THERE WAS A SMALL PART MISSING. WE COULDNT FIGURE OUT HOW TO COMPLETE THE CHROUS. WE CAME UP WITH “ROCK MY BABY” AND KNEW IT WAS PERFECT. I ADDED SOME PRODUCTION TO THE TRACK TO LIVEN IT UP AND THE REST IS HISTORY. WE INSTANTLY KNEW WE MADE SOMETHING SPECIAL.

DOZOBWOI: This project is about reflection and survival. It comes from moments of doubt, growth, loneliness, faith, and clarity. I am documenting where I am mentally and spiritually, not where I think people expect me to be.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

DOZOBWOI: It is emotional and honest. Afro inspired but calm, introspective, and soulful. Music you can ride to at night or sit with when you are thinking about life.

KAMANCHI PRO:   HIGH QUALITY FREQUENCY!! THE FREQUENCY IS INFUSED THROUGH THE RHYTHM….IT MAY BE AN EMOTIONAL SONG IT MAY BE A PARTY SONG. BUT THE HIGH QUALITY OF FREQUENCY YOU FEEL WHEN THE MUSIC HITS YOUR SOUL IS SOMETHING YOULL WANT TO FEEL OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

DOZOBWOI:  I learned that silence matters just as much as sound. Not forcing creativity changed everything. I now let songs come from real moments instead of pressure.

KAMANCHI PRO:  WOW. SO MUCH. I THINK THE BIGGEST THING WOULD BE WORD USAGE. ITS NOT ALWAYS ABOUT BEING THE BEST RAPPER OR SAYING THE HARDEST LINES PEOPLE EVER HEARD. SOMETIMES ITS SIMPLY ABOUT GIVING THE PEOPLE SOMETHING THEY CAN FEEL AND RELATE TO. THEY CAN CONNECT WITH.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

KAMANCHI PRO: My phone. That’s how I write. Pro-Tools and a Mic. That’s all I need to make magic. The Talent God Gave Me. That’s It.

DOZOBWOI:  My voice, a simple microphone, and my DAW. I also rely a lot on mood. If my mind is not right, no equipment can save the session.

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

DOZOBWOI: I am drawn to artists who are honest and not chasing noise. I listen to music that feels intentional and calm, even when it is minimal.

KAMANCHI PRO: OBEST AND THE IMAGE-  “Ballin” from the 2025 EP “Take’Nova”.

SGE HEARTLESS- “Prayin In The Dark”

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

DOZOBWOI: Every experience shapes it. Moving countries, starting over, working, building, losing people, finding faith, questioning myself. All of that shows up in my music whether I plan it or not.

KAMANCHI:  THATS A TOUGH ONE MAN. YOU KNOW….WRITING AND PERFORMING MUSIC BECAME MY ESCAPE. WHEN NOTHING WAS GOING RIGHT IN MY LIFE, NOTHING, THE MUSIC BECAME MY THERAPY. WHEN I WROTE MY 2023 PROJECT “NO GUARANTEEZ” man I just got outta jail, my family left me, my son was mad at me LOL. And I wrote about it all. THE PAIN. THE PAIN BECAME MY MOTIVATION. I WANTED PEOPLE TO KNOW, WITH EVERYTHING WE BEEN THOUGH, ALL THE LOSSES, ALL THE SET BACKS. WE STILL HAVE A REASON TO FIGHT. TO BELIEVE IN A BETTER TOMORROW.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

DOZOBWOI:  I hope they feel understood. I want people to know they are not alone in their thoughts and struggles. Peace is a big message for me.

KAMANCHI: HIGH QUALITY FREQUENCY LOL SERIOUSLY. ALL JOKES ASIDE. WE KNOW LIFE CAN BE HARD. BUT WE NOT GIVING UP! THE FREQUENCY IN MY ART IS CONTAGIOUS BECAUSE YOU HEAR THE DESPERATION IN MY VOICE. IM RAPPING FOR MY LIFE. TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. SO EVEN ON A RECORD LIKE PARTY, LIFE AINT PERFECT BUT WE STILL GOT A REASON TO GO OUT, HAVE A GOOD TIME, HIT THAT DANCE FLOOR AND “ROCK MY BABY” LOL SO WE ALWAYS GONNA KEEP THE FREQUENCY HIGH.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

DOZOBWOI: Every experience shapes it. Moving countries, starting over, working, building, losing people, finding faith, questioning myself. All of that shows up in my music whether I plan it or not.

KAMANCHI: WOW….THE MOST IMPORTANT LESSON….YOU CAN BE SPECIAL AT SOMETHING…GENERATIONAL….SPEAKING OF RAW TALENT AND ABILITY….BUT IF THE CONSISTENCY ISISNT THERE….IF THE DRIVE IS LACKING….THE MINDSET AND THE THOUGHT PROCESS ISINT SOUND…. It becomes pretty difficult to sustain success and almost anything.

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

DOZOBWOI: Any stage where people are really listening. Big or small does not matter aus long as the connection is real.

KAMANCHI: MY DREAM VENUE IS ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD….NOT THE U.S…. THE WORLD….. WHERE PEOPLE OF ALL RACE COLORS

NATIONALIZATIONS CREEDS BACKGROUNDS SOCIAL STATUS ECONOMIC STATUS RELIGIOUS STATUS ….COME TOGETHER AND FORGET ABOUT OUR IMPERFECTIONS AND SHORTCOMINGS AND “PARTY”!!!!!!!!! No pun intended lol

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

DOZOBWOI:  An artist who values depth and intention. Someone who respects silence, story, and meaning more than hype.

KAMANCHI: YOOOO DOZOBWOI IS Hilarious!!! 😂 MAN I WISH I WOULDA THOUGHT OF DAT ANWSER LOL MAN I WAS GOIN SOMETHING DUMB LIKE TUPAC OR BIGGIE LOL THATS WHY HES MY MAN HES ALWAYS THINKING ON A DEEPER LEVEL LOL
