Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with 22 HERTZ

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
I was probably about 4 or 5 years old; I walked into a department store that had an air-powered organ with music-by-numbers, and I played it almost immediately.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
It began when I was maybe five or six years old at a campground—someone was strumming an acoustic guitar and everybody was sitting around a campfire singing. It looked like the most fun you could have, and I wanted to be the person making that happen.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
I made a discovery after watching a certain concert: you can have heavy music like metal without it being only guitars—synthesizers can do it too, and that opened up a whole new possibility for me.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
Heavy alternative rock or metal.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
Stop waiting for “perfect” sounds and start committing—print decisions early, embrace mistakes, and treat the studio like an instrument; the emotion matters more than the gear.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
External synthesizers, external instruments, VST instruments, and a good DAW.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
Marcus Miller — I just discovered him recently, and he’s my favorite bassist of all time.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
A lot. If I kept a diary—some personal log of the stuff I’m dealing with in real life—you’d basically be hearing it in the music. That’s where it all comes from.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
Experiences are subjective—everyone’s going to pull something a little different out of the same song. I just hope they connect with it and actually like the songs.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
Discomfort is the point—make what you actually feel, finish it even when you hate it, and let the work be honest instead of likable.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
Opening up for a big act at a festival that’s streamed live around the world—where the opening slot actually makes sense, and the vibe matches what 22 Hertz does.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
I’ve never really considered collaborating—I don’t have the time for it right now. Could it happen in the future? Sure. But I don’t have anybody specific in mind.
Where can our listeners follow and support your music? (Website, Spotify, IG, links)
22hertz.com, Spotify, YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook.
Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
I’m getting into filmmaking, so I’ll be working more on soundtracks and songs for movies.
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
That you can have high-quality songs and they don’t have to be in the top 100 on the radio.
