Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Sagar. M

Q1 What is your earliest memory connected to music?
A1 One of my earliest memories connected to music goes back to when I was in second grade and was learning to play the violin and viola. A couple of years later, in the fourth grade, I discovered my love for drums and from that point on, I’ve been hooked on music ever since.
Q2 How did your passion for creating music begin?
A2 My passion for creating music grew gradually . It really felt like something that was bound to happen eventually. I was taught in classical music from a young age, but i also had a growing fascination with electronic music, which naturally led me to experiment with DJing. From there on, I felt that getting into music production and making my own sounds was the next step forward.
Q3 What’s the story behind your current music project?
The story behind my current project is pretty simple. I’m just someone who fell in love with music at a young age and later on got completely drawn into the world of electronic music. With this project, I hope to bring together the sounds that made me fall in love with both worlds and deliver the feelings that came along as well.
Q4 How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
A4 I’d describe my sound as electronic and melody-driven with a melancholic touch accompanied by strong rhythmic undertones, all whilst being heavily inspired from house music.
Q5 What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
A5 One thing I’ve learned that has changed the way I make music is how simple professionals keep their projects. Many of the tracks we all love and enjoy don’t over complicate the basics as the emphasis remains mainly on the core idea of the track. A lot of great songs were completed rather quickly, instead of over thinking & over polishing the output which is something i continue to actively to work upon as well.
Q6 What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
A6 One of the most essential tool right of the bat is my DAW – FL Studio alongside that a Midi Keyboard is very important since it allows me to translate melodies and chords that are in my head directly into a project. I also have a drum kit in my studio, which helps spark rhythm based ideas and i can sample live parts if needed as well. Aside from that, I use a number of VSTs, including effects and synths, which vary depending on each project.
Q7 Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
A7 There are a few indie artists I’ve been enjoying lately, such as Jack Dudley, Hidden Face, and Ale Comminoti.
Q8 How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
A8 I believe most artists are shaped by their personal experiences and surroundings, and that always shows up in their art in one way or another. My own experiences have had a similar influence, as audible by the way my sound continues to evolve, with a constant contrast between textures and tonalities, while melodies remain at the heart of my music.
Q9 What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
A9 I hope to convey a range of emotions with my music. I often sway melancholic and deep, sometimes darker or gritty, yet also uplifting and energetic with more club & commercial tracks. I’m not sure there’s one specific message I’m trying to send just yet but I believe it will all come together as my catalog grows and takes shape. Till then – “Expect the Unexpected” !!
Q10 What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
A10 The most valuable lesson music has taught me is that it is absolutely magical. You never really know where your music will end up, who will listen to it, or how it will be received but if it’s created with genuine intention, things do seem to fall into place. It’s all about trust and flow, both in music and in life.
Q11 What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
A11 There are so many dream venues and festivals I’d love to play at, but a few that instantly come to mind are Tomorrowland, Ultra Music Festival, and having a residency in Ibiza.
Q12 If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
A12 Well If we’re talking about artists from the present, I’d love the chance to collaborate with Swedish House Mafia, RÜFÜS DU SOL, Justice to name a few. Returning to the past, Michael Jackson would definitely be at the top of the list and of course, Daft Punk back when they were active, would have been an absolute dream to work with. All those artist are legends in their own ways & have really inspired me along the way
Q13 Where can our listeners follow and support your music?
A13 You can find everything related to my music from releases and tour dates to radio show episodes, merch & much more on my website : sagarm.com.
Q14 Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
A14 Looking ahead, my main focus for the next chapter is to start releasing music again . Since I’ve been sitting on a lot of unreleased material. I haven’t put out anything in the past couple of years for various reasons, some beyond my control, but this year I’m ready to share new tracks and give listeners something fresh to enjoy. I also want to play more shows in new venues and countries, and test out some of my new IDs along the way.
Q15 What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
A15 I hope listeners discover that I’m simply someone who’s deeply passionate about music and truly loves what I do. I’ve always been fascinated by how music in it’s various forms can express human emotions, tell stories, and create memories that last a lifetime. My goal is to give listeners those same feelings and magical moments through my work. I put my heart into this craft, and I’m grateful for everyone who supports me along the way. I’ll never take your support for granted.
