Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Ross LB

What is your earliest memory connected to music?

I think I was around 3 or 4 years old. My grandma had this big, almost furniture-like turntable, it felt like a permanent piece of the house.

She would always put on the same record: an old vinyl of Lucio Battisti from the early 70s, those timeless romantic ballads. When the chorus of “La canzone del sole” came on, I’d start spinning around in the middle of the room like it was my own little private ceremony. I had no clue if I was dancing properly, but the music just took control of my body, I couldn’t stay still.  My grandma would laugh softly, look at me with that sweet, knowing smile (the kind only grandmas have, the one that says you’re discovering something magical), and she’d nudge the volume up just a tiny bit more. That was the first time I truly felt that music isn’t just heard… it lives inside you.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

I started writing lyrics, poems or simply paragraphs in my diary at the age of 20.

After more than 15 years, by chance I found a folder on an old hard drive where I had recorded some audio with my “songs”.

I then began to give them a proper song structure, using backing tracks that I found on the internet.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

In recent years I’ve grown closer to urban and Latin music thanks to the love I’ve developed for Latin American culture. Colombia has been my main source of inspiration.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

If I had to describe my sound to someone who’s never heard me… I’d say it’s a pretty gritty and honest mix between Latin urban and that slightly melancholic Italian soul. It’s music that makes your body dance but leaves your heart feeling a bit uneasy, in a good way. Street energy + secret diary feelings, that’s the combo.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

I had to learn how to adapt the way I express my feelings through words, so that everyone could grasp the message I want to convey. What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

Kenneth an Afrobeat Spanish singer

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

My personal experiences have greatly influenced my artistic vision. In my lyrics, I talk a lot about personal experiences, but also about the personal experiences of the people close to me. In detail, my upcoming EP “Let’s Swing” consists of 6 tracks that are part of a story I’ve lived and am still living in this recent period. It doesn’t talk about love, but about general dissatisfaction, professional burnout, and the awareness that society sometimes forces us to wear masks that we don’t always like.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

I hope that people who listen to my songs can relate to them in some way, and that the lyrics help them recognize the value and importance each of us truly has — in our relationships with others and in society as a whole. That self-respect is one of the most essential things for personal growth and for learning to become better versions of ourselves.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

Music has taught me, and teaches me every day, that life is the most wonderful thing we have and that we should never waste it. And knowing that my songs can reach even just a few people always motivates me more and more to keep making music.

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

Obviously, being Italian, I’d love love love to sing on the Ariston stage, but honestly, at the moment the Benidorm Fest feels a bit more doable.

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

Let’s say I’d absolutely love to be able to collaborate with an artist like Rosalía, or why not, do a session with Bizarrap.

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?

On January 23rd, my first EP in English, Let’s Swing, will be released. It’s a project I poured a lot of love and dedication into, and I truly hope the audience connects with it.

The genre is something new for me. It’s a fusion of electronic music and swing, an electro swing sound that makes you dance while also giving you something to think about.

For 2026, I have several collaborations planned, along with the release of a track I produced with a major Spanish producer. I’ll also start working on my first full album, which I hope to release by the end of 2026.

I have many projects ahead, and I sincerely hope people appreciate and love my music, because for me, that truly matters.

What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?

That I am a genuine artist, that I tell stories from real life, and that I hope they can connect with them.
