Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with 4Fingaz

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
My earliest memory connected to music I think is from my older sister. She used to play quite a lot of music in and around the house, different genres. And yeah, I just fell in love listening to jazz, listening to reggae, listening to all different types of music.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
My passion for music really began when I was maybe around 11, 12 I’ll say, and the friend of mine at school just listened to the album of Bun Thugs in Harmony. I can’t remember which album it must have been the first. And he was raven all about it and he used to teach us some of the songs so we used to rap along. And then I can remember me and my young sister, she’s an amazing singer and she was the one that taught me how to really sing.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
My current project is called Jesus I’m in need and I wrote that song because yeah just in a situation where I was just desperate for God Jesus to show up and in the middle of my difficult situation I was going through as we sometimes do as human beings praying for a light to shine in the darkness.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
: I can describe my sound to be Afrobeat, to be rap, to be Regea, I think it’s just world music. I can’t really describe it better than that.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
:
The one thing I really learnt that really changed the way I make music I would say is I really think about legacy. I’m going to leave behind how my music would be viewed after I’m gone. I think that really inspired me about how I write and the type of music that I make.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
I’ve had the privilege of working with many different types of producers over the years, but my main producer is Aaron S. Musik and I’m sure he uses Logic. I use Cubase to record my vocals at home and send it to him and he does all the mixing and then sends it back.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
Music has taught me to be brave to make and do what you love to do, like what you have passion for and to not give up no matter how hard it is or if you’re not getting the answers that you’re looking for. It’s easy to keep going when people are cheering for you but it can be difficult to keep going when no one’s applauding you so if you believe in what you’re doing and believing yourself
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
I would love to be performing those big Christian festivals every summer. All of them if possible.
