Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview Ines

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
I think I was at my Godfather’s house. I must have been about 6 or 7 and he played guitar for fun, and he started playing Rolling in the deep by Adèle, and I sang along!
How did your passion for creating music begin?
Reply
It started very late tbh. I think its Taylor Swift mostly. She justs have a song for every situation and every feeling ever ! And I wanted to do that too, unfortunately and fortunately I was never able to write anything before going through a very bad heartbreak.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
Its kinda sad, a boy I loved very very much sat in front of me and told me after months of being together that he did not love me, and he hoped one day he could but for now it was impossible. Dreamed us was a way for me to deal with how I felt, and to tell him through a song. Maybe 5 mins after the song was out I received a text saying « Inès, you wrote a song about me ? no one ever does that » and now we’ve been back together for more than a year and im the happiest I’ve ever been.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
I think my music is very simple. Its just me singing what I am or have been going through at some point. Its very Taylor Swift, kinda folk and country, and a bit sad haha !
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
That you can just do it. You absolutely can write a song about anything that you want, you dont have to know fancy words, or have experienced crazy things. And you have to be patient too, I think I had like 20 pages full of songs or bit of songs that I thought were so bad, in the end Dreamed us was hiding in some of these pages!
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
Honestly I dont need many things, my phone to write lyrics, to records melodies. Now I’d add my guitar, but when writing Dreamed us I didnt have one and didnt know how to play.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
One of the singers I sing with in open stages recently made a very very good single. His name is Tauarii and the song is called Swedish Pine Trees.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
It has definitely inspired me. I cannot write about something I dont know or never felt. But moslty Im inspired when im sad. I have yet to write a happy song 🙁
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
Honestly I dont know. I just hope someone can relate and feel understood and seen.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
I’ve learned so much about me listening to music. Sometimes you cannot put words on something and suddenly a song comes and its exactly word for word what you’re feeling/thinking. So i’d say the most important lesson music has taught me is that im not alone, never, there isnt anything in the world someone has not written anything about!
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
If I was very French and very cliché (which I am) I’d say l’Olympia in Paris. Its the kind of venue you play in when you have made it. But if I was really honest and non-realistic I would say anywhere in Nashville would be my biggest dream.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
Taylor Swift has inspired everything I do, she is the blueprint in terms of music career, no one writes like her and she knows music so so well. Obviously I cant say anyone but her.
But also I love what Zach Bryan does, I like how he writes, I listen to a lot of his songs and he does country so of course I would love to collaborate with him one day !
Where can our listeners follow and support your music? (Website,Spotify, IG, links)
You can listen to me on pretty much any music platform, my name is Ines and my only song is Dreamed Us (only song for now, more is coming!!).
I have Instagram : @inesmusic__ and TikTok : @inessdfl
Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
For now, I really want to realease an EP this year, I started guitar to be independant and write my own music, so now its much easier to write songs.
In a year or so I hope to leave for Nashville and try to play in bars, that would be like a dream come true !
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
That you dont have to come from a certain place to like and make a certain type of music. I wasnt born in Texas and that will not prevent me from making country music, Im a French girl singing english country songs and Im so proud of it!!
