Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with XEAVY

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
One of my Earliest memories relating to music is arriving at my Aunt’s House on a Sunday morning and Hearing Vicente Fernandez blasting through the speakers as she cleaned the house. Those songs did not have any substance to them when I was a child, but the older I got the more those words & melodies connected.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
To be Honest I have always been a creative individual; but the older I got the more life began to do what life eventually does, nonetheless I slowly and surely got consumed by responsibilities. During 2020 in the middle of the Pandemic I finally had time to disconnect from the rat race and I decided to give into my divine Creator Spirit, and music was the medium of self expression that spoke to my Soul.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
The next Song I’m working on is an Ode to my Family expressing how thankful I am for all their love and support. The Song is titled “Sublime Gracias”. I’m also working on a future album that will explore my Heritage in music but that’s for further in the future.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
That’s hard, bc I try my best to pick sounds & rhythm’s that are different. I would say I identify as an RNB singer in the way I construct my Songs but I sing in a low registry. I draw inspiration from the late Great Isaac Hayes who also sang in a low tone but he had a far superior control of his voice something that would probably take me 2 life times to learn and train to do.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
I’ve learned that our own experience is the best source of inspiration.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
I am old school I use pen and paper to write my songs but I use logic pro as my digital audio workstation.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
I recently met an Indie Artist while while working Uber who wrote a beautiful song about the perils of war. His name is Sam Ronan and the song is titled Runway. That is the song that is currently on repeat in my Car that was created by an Indie Artist.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
It’s like I mentioned earlier our own experiences provide an unending well of inspiration. My goal in life is to try to be unapologetically me in all instances of my life and that also applies to music.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
My hope is that people can atttain a message of perseverance and the ability for ascribing your/their own meaning to life.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
It has taught me to lean into my Emotions as a Man and be one with them and not runaway from my feelings.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
I’m a dreamer so Madison Square Garden or the Staple Center would be those Venue’s, but for right now I’ll will work towards preforming at a local Club or Venue in my Town.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
I’m a Huge Camilo Echeverry fan, and the reason is simple, and that’s because he is Master at his craft. I’ve nicknamed Him “Maestro” like how younger artists refer to older artist veteran musicians even though I’m older than him. His ability for writing music is up there with the greatest. He has the ability to capture emotions in such a succinct way that everyone can relate to it, and he is also a super talented artist who composes all his musical melodies. He makes the complicated seem simple like most Masters of their craft do.
I would also say it would be a dream to work along side Pharrell Williams.

I just want to continue to make music that I Love. I don’t have any concrete expectations on this musical journey. My goals are fluid because my heart has told me to embark and take off. Therefore I will accept whatever the universe holds in my favor. I don’t know what the future holds but in the meantime I’m enjoying myself the pursuit of my Soul.
