Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Ricardo Caminha

Ricardo Caminha is a rising name in Brazil. With his recently released album “THERAPY,” he has been drawing attention in the indie scene by bringing true musicality to electronic music, blending it with POP vocals and rhythms.
With international tours under his belt, performances for tens of thousands of people, and growing streaming numbers, 2026 promises to be an excellent year for Ricardo.
What is your earliest memory connected to music?
Reply: I remember being 4 years old back in 1996 and listening to the Rolling Stones’ “Hot Rocks”—an incredible compilation that is still part of my daily life—and Queen’s “Greatest Hits.” The latter was the album that changed my life, specifically the track “Another One Bites The Dust.”
A bit later, I discovered electronic music, but due to my lack of knowledge at the time, I thought it was Rock because the rhythm reminded me of that British band’s track. In the 2000s, as the internet became popular in Brazilian homes, I discovered Fatboy Slim… and from then on, I never stopped.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
Reply: I’ve always been a huge music lover; I would spend hours of my childhood just listening to music, fascinated by it. That didn’t change with electronic music—I just became more curious. I used to think: How is electronic music made? What instruments do they use? Is it a band or just one person? Around the age of 12, I discovered FL Studio and what could be done with it. Since then, I’ve never stopped creating songs, melodies, and expressing myself through this passion.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
Reply: As an artist today, I like to bring philosophical viewpoints and dissect psychology in the form of poetry and melody. The title “THERAPY” (Ricardo Caminha’s debut album) isn’t just a name. It features themes addressed in my early sessions—things I said or thought while in the therapist’s office.
All the stories are from real life; when they aren’t my own experiences, they belong to people close to me.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
Reply: Deep thoughts disguised as rhythms and melody.
What is one thing you’ve learned that
completely changed the way you make music?
Reply: Music theory!!! It is very important. Even though software makes things easier nowadays, you should learn it so you don’t depend solely on technology.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
Reply: I like to play my bass on some tracks, and my keyboard is indispensable for creating melodies. Inside FL Studio, I like to start the creative process with simple instruments; if a melody “sticks” in your head on just a piano or an acoustic guitar, it’s because it’s truly good.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
Reply: Well, regarding indie artists, I’ve currently been listening more to good old Rock n’ Roll. It’s impressive how many new bands are making incredible music. As for electronic music, I’m always searching for new artists who can blow me away…
Have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
Reply: YES, absolutely!!! My influences come from everyday life. If I don’t have a story, I don’t have my music.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
Reply: From social critiques, as you can hear in my track titled “#IWokeUpLikeThis,” to romantic songs (“Layers” is a great example) and songs about partying until the sun comes up… but you’ll only hear those later, LOL.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
Reply: Persistence—a painful and important lesson. Life will frustrate you, but never give up!!!
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
Reply: I want to do a show in my hometown at a location open to the public. Oh… and closing the main stage at Ultra Miami.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
Reply: It’s hard to choose just one, it might be unfair… but likely some epic singer.
Where can our listeners follow and support your music?
Reply: You can find me on your favorite music streaming platform
Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
Reply: I have so many songs to release that I’m debating whether to release them as singles or another full album. It all depends on what my team recommends, as my goal is to reach as many people as possible to spread the message even further.
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
Reply: How much I need music and art to keep me alive.
