Formula Indie Sessions – Interview with Colour Street Sidewalk

Hi! I’m Nadav Dahan, a 25-year-old musician behind Colour Street Sidewalk.
What is your earliest memory connected to music?
Earliest memory? That’s got to be watching Fantasia 2000 by Disney when I was around 5 or 6 – especially the Rhapsody in Blue segment. What a tune.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
I can’t pinpoint a single moment that started it all, but listening to Coldplay’s Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall definitely played a role. There was something about that song that made me want to pursue music as a teenager.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
Colour Street Sidewalk is essentially me going solo after my previous band broke up. I knew right away I wanted to keep making music, so I decided to take full responsibility – writing, recording, and producing almost everything myself. (Shoutout to Uri Fishbain for helping me out in the studio!)
How would you describe your sound to someone who’s never heard your music before?
I’d say it’s a blend of indie rock, dream pop, alt rock, and pop rock. Give it a listen and let me know if you think I nailed the description.
What’s one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
As an indie artist, you’ve got to know your DAW inside and out. Always dig deeper to explore new production techniques and ways to streamline your sessions. Most of us are working solo, with limited budgets, so every bit of knowledge helps us elevate our music on our own.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
I record nearly all the instruments myself – drums, guitars, synths, pianos, and vocals. Since I work alone, it’s up to me to get the most out of each one.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
The list is endless because I’m always discovering new artists, but some of my favourites so far include Kios, Atmos Bloom, Rubens, and Sobs.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
My music tends to explore themes of relationships – it just comes out that way. I don’t sit down and plan a vision. Music is a powerful outlet for me, so it’s mostly driven by my thoughts and emotions.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
If my music makes someone feel something, I’ve done my job. I’m not here to tell you what to take from it – I just hope it resonates with you in your own way.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
It’s healthy to speak out. As human beings, it’s vital that we share our voices and stories.
What’s a dream venue or festival you’d love to perform at?
I love the vibe of music festivals – from small indie gatherings to the biggest stages in the world. I’d be thrilled to play at any of them.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
Pete Robertson. The guy produced She Plays Bass. What more could you ask for?
Where can listeners follow and support your music?
You can always say hi on Instagram (@Nadav_css). I’m also on all streaming platforms.
Looking ahead, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
I’m leaning toward developing a live act and promoting it. Finding a booking agent or record label that sees potential in what I do could really help take things to the next level. (Hit me up if you’re interested 😉)
What do you hope listeners discover about you along the way?
That I’m always here, trying to be as honest and sincere as I can.
