‘Wait for You (Fuji)’ is a sizzling fusion of Fuji and Afrobeats by Nigerian artists Chemmie and Davay King that narrates the bitter tale of a deceitful love. With catchy beats and poignant lyrics, ‘Wait for You’ is an anthem for anyone who dared to love a liar

What is your earliest memory connected to music?

Me planning my debut live performance event for next year (2026)

How did your passion for creating music begin?

I used to think I was a terrible singer until I was privileged to sing to my classmates one time in primary school and I was told I had a nice voice. The encouragement made me want to do more but not commercially because I was too timid at the time

What’s the story behind your current music project?

I like to do things out of the norm on every project I release. At the time I recorded the song “Wait For You (Fuji)” with Nigerian artist “Davay King”, the genre “Fuji” was trending across Nigeria and I decided to blend it with Afrobeats with an interesting story about a cheating and lying partner who wouldn’t admit they are wrong for cheating and still want to keep the relationship

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

My sound is Afrofusion- a blend of cultures, genres, and vibes. I do not box myself in so I blend Afrobeats with any interesting genre I lay my hand on, pushing boundaries and showcasing the versatility of African music.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

Since I learned the Music Business, I stopped making music to impress everyone and I started making music as I feel. You might not get to like it but I know deep down that it will resonate with certain people in certain parts of the world.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

I use the note pad and voice memo on my phone

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

The indie artist I’m loving right now would be YungAce

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

I grew up listening to Afrobeats, Highlife, and Fuji and they shape my melodies. My personal experiences and experiences of other people I’ve been able to converse with shape my lyrics, emotions and stories.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

I mostly make energetic and happy songs because that’s how I want my listeners to feel regardless of what they are going through

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

You have to be patient and open minded to enjoy Music as an artist
