Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with immxrtlss

What is your earliest memory connected to music?

When I was very young (maybe 5-6 years old, can’t remember exactly), my father had a custom cassette recorder with two speakers in which LEDs were installed, and they played to the beat of the music. I liked it very much and I often listened to my father’s collection of tapes on it.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

I’ve always liked music and the fact that it can give different emotions. Even in elementary school, I was wondering how people create music, but I didn’t have any resources where I could find this information, such as the Internet.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

In 2020 I came across a video on YouTube by Slava Marlow (now a popular artist from Russia) in which he taught how to create music from scratch, unknown to me at that time, by DAW Ableton Live. Before that I knew about the existence of FL Studio, but the interface seemed very complicated to me, and I abandoned its study. Abeton, in turn, seemed to me very simple and visually pleasing. From that moment on, I started watching more videos like this, learning and trying to make music.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

My work is about the state and visual images — night, city, space, loneliness, Internet aesthetics.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

I developed gradually by studying YouTube videos, so I can’t say that at some point I radically changed my approach. I can only say that I found a very good “teacher” on the same YouTube – channel “IY Beats”. He explains everything very clearly, and I watch his videos to this day.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

Today I use Ableton Live 12 Suite, many different plug–ins, but most often – Serum 2, FabFilter, iZotope Tonal Balance Control 2 and others, as well as some built-in (equalizer, compressor and others). For hardware I use an Arturia MiniFuse 2 sound card, Beyerdynamic DT 900 PRO X headphones and a simple Dexp dynamic microphone.

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

I listen to a lot of different music, but among the latest ones I can single out “MALBEK, Olya Holiday – See you soon”, “tesh – FINGERS” and “soft siren – 4am”

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

There have been no events in my life that could change the vector of my vision, but I can say that mental and physical health are very important, so it’s important to take care of yourself.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

My music does not carry any specific message, but I hope that my work will help the listener to distract and relax.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

Music can help to sort out your thoughts or just relax both the listener and the creator.

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

A specific place or event doesn’t really matter to me. The main thing is a pleasant atmosphere.

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

The first one that comes to mind is Skrillex. I have always admired his work and to this day he makes a huge contribution to electronic music.

Where can our listeners follow and support your music? (Website,Spotify, IG, links)

I have collected all the relevant links here: linktr.ee/immxrtlss

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?

I would like to gain more knowledge and experience working with different artists.

What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?

My life is not that interesting to talk about. I wish the listeners would just enjoy listening to my music.
