Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with denoide

Ovunque saremo is an album about movement and connection. It tells the story of people who change, travel, break up and grow. The songs talk about distance, vulnerability, and the idea of a “we” that can exist even when things are not the same anymore. Ovunque saremo means being present for someone, wherever life takes you in the inner sides of you.
What is your earliest memory connected to music?
My earliest memory connected to music is a little piano my parents bought me when I was 4. I was fascinated by the sound possibilities of that little thing! My dad also loved it and it used to replicate famous song using just one finger ahah! Since then, I wanted to experiment every sound possible!
How did your passion for creating music begin?
My passion for creating music started around 2018, I have always been a creative person and I thought programming games was the best deal when it comes to expressing yourself. Turns out making songs its easier and convenient compared to developing video games. So i started by buying a Stratocaster and my first usb audio card. The first songs were really atrocious ahah!
What’s the story behind your current music project?
It all started in 2023 after my biggest break-up. After a 6 year relationship I felt the need to express the feelings I was living. I found in music a way to escape the sadness and to make sense of everything that happened. For this reason, I developed a melancholic, distorted but also dreamy sound.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
My sound it’s a mixture of different elements. The basic idea is to create an harmony between multiple instruments. Each one is interesting when listened solely but also contributes to a unique melody that has its roots in a dreamy, floaty, raw but sweet context. Everything is thought in a grand scheme while the voice uses a calm tone to convey a direction into a wall of emotion that surround the listener.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
Mainly when I discovered the use of pan to virtually move instruments and create a big sound stage! That way I can create an environment for the listener to submerge in. It was a pretty big discovery for me and one of the fundamentals of what I like in music. In each songs of mine, in fact, I put at least three guitars: one at far left, one at far right and one in the middle!
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
Fender guitars are a staple of my sound. I love the clarity and dynamics of single coils especially from Jaguars and Jazzmasters. I think Logic Pro its also the best DAW for my workflow that consists mainly in direct recordings using one of my beloved tube amps. I have a pretty big collection of amps, ranging from the Twin Reverb (which I dedicated to my beloved grandmother who passed away years ago) to a Marshall SV20H but I also have a Mesa Boogie DC-5 and many others. I like to consider my amps as colors and my guitars as brushes.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
I’m a pretty nostalgic person! I live music by associating memories to it! So I tend to listen and love artist that are tied to my life. One of them are surely Young the Giant, I love their song “Strings” from they self-titled album. I asked them to do that at their concert in Milan but sadly they didn’t listen to me ahah! I also love “Time For Heroes” by The Libertines. That is my song! I have to also quote Arctic Monkeys and the entirety of their first album that literally made me play guitar. Talking about more recent artists I love Thee Sacred Souls, and their song “Easier Said Than Done”.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
I try to convey my sensitivity and empathy through my music. I firmly believe what I lived in the past helped me see through people. What I try to accomplish is describing people through melodies, for this reason I talk with a lot of people and many times inspirations come from their life, their words and my point of view on them.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
I hope my listeners will take the beauty of being human from my songs. How being fragile is not a sin or a guilt and that starting from that we can be empathetic and more connected between each other. I would also like to give hope at the end: the hope to not fear to open up but instead to engage with our humanity even if not really understandable at times.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
The most important lesson is how many different perspectives are there even if it doesn’t seem to! Even if I try to listen the best I can there will bel always people thinking and listening differently to what you imagined. I think that’s part of the game even if it’s something I still have to learn to manage it properly.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
I would love to perform at the T in the park during 2006/2007, I was just 8 years old at that time but many of the artist and vibe that made me create music in the first place was born during those years. I would love to share the stage with early Arctic Monkeys!
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
I could say early Arctic Monkeys, but I would like to collaborate with an almost unknown Japanese band from the 90s called Fishmans, I love their dreamy reggae and I took a lot of inspiration for the dreamy part of my sound from them.

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
I would like to refine my style even more and perhaps introduce new instruments like pianos and synths. I’m still trying to understand how to convey emotions effectively by introducing synths!. I also hope to release music that are the result of a better period of my life in order to experiment a different part of me.
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
I hope my listener will discover that I did my best in learning to exist!
