Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Bambootown

Hello, we are Bambootown from Ciawi – Tasikmalaya, Indonesia, as you can see there are five of us, consist of : Gin (Vox, Guitar), Ales (Bass), Iksal (Guitar), Nanda (Guitar) and Iyuz (Drums). And Thank you very much Euro Indie Music for having us in this interview!
What is your earliest memory connected to music?
Music was always present before we understood it. We remember the melodies filling quiet rooms and staying with us long after the sound was gone. That emotional residue is what made music feel important to us.
—
How did your passion for creating music begin?
It started from songwriting as a personal outlet, which eventually grew into a shared project with Bambootown.
—
What’s the story behind your current music project
Bambootown is a space for reflection. It’s built from everyday experiences, inner conversations, and the search for meaning in simple moments. Nothing grand, just honest. Like in our first EP, many of the songs are about past experiences that were not always pleasant. We transform those memories into something to be grateful for, so in the present, we can feel at peace with what has already happened
—
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
Warm indie pop with a nostalgic edge. Simply melodic, atmospheric, and emotionally open—music that feels familiar but still leaves room for interpretation.
—
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
Music taught us to be patience. Growth takes time, and sincerity always lasts longer than hype. Staying true to yourself matters more than chasing quick validation.
—
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
A guitar, a quiet room, and simple recording tools. The goal is to capture feeling before it disappears.
—
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
We deeply influenced by the spirit of The Cure, The Smiths, Ash, and many the late-90s to early 2000 indie-alternative scene—music that balances melody, melancholy, and energy. To be honest there are too many to mention though because there’s so many amazing artists and releases on this year (lol), but sonically it’s still mostly based on our huge influence as we mentioned before.
—
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
Life roles, being a husband and father, as a child of a mother who will forever see us as her children even as we grow older, being a working adult—bring perspective, our happiness and our loneliness. our music reflects responsibility, imagination, and emotional honesty shaped by real life even if it’s a tragedy.
—
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
Honesty and warmth. The EP is meant to feel close, familiar, and emotionally open.
—
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
Consistency matters more than recognition. Music is a long conversation, not a quick statement.
—
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
We’d love to play festivals or gigs where we get to open for bands we really look up to. And honestly, we’re huge fans of those live-taping sets—like Sound From The Corner, KEXP, KCRW—just the kind of intimate live stages that really let us connect with the music, hehe.
—
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
Haha, if we could daydream a little, we’d love to have Louis Eliot from Rialto lend his vocals on one of our songs. We’re really drawn to his melancholic, cinematic style—it’s been a big influence on how we approach our arrangements too.
