Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Ray Le Fanue x Brandon Chase

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
Earliest memory would be like many kids – turning pots and pans into a drum kit. Luckily as a toddler, I didn’t have to worry about cleaning up afterwards!
How did your passion for creating music begin?
I started playing piano at age 5, and ever since I have always had music in my blood.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
My music project “Ray Le Fanue” is just my name, as it represents myself in my most authentic form – aiming to inspire hope, nostalgia and good feelings around the world – these themes are reflected in my songs.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
Very much as the inspiration behind my project, I aim to evoke good feelings through my music. Whether people are sad or happy, I hope to take them to a better place through music.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
We all try to strive perfection, but it can also be a flaw leading to many unfinished tracks. Follow your gut I think and if it feels ready, then it likely is!
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
I use a keyboard and guitar to write songs, however as I am mostly an electronic artist, I produce mainly through DAWs – mostly notably FL Studio and Ableton.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
I’ve always been a massive fan of Midnight Kids – many of my feel-good tracks have been inspired by their sound. I do have a huge appreciation for the craft of every indie artist though – the industry is tough and it is vulnerable to put your music out to the world.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
I didn’t get heavily into writing feel-good tracks until COVID. It was a dark time for many and that inspired me to head down a more themed path.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
I’m all for just wanting to make listeners feel happy/better.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
That life can be hard – very evident in the music industry. But be consistent and you can start seeing results. Don’t expect to be a superstar but aim to be better than the artist you were yesterday.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
Tomorrowland!!!
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
I feel working on something with Avicii or Kygo would be quite special. They create hugely emotive tracks – Avicii especially being a massive pioneer of the EDM/pop crossover.
Where can our listeners follow and support your music? (Website,Spotify, IG, links)
Would love any/all support!

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
I’m totally content with just putting music out at this stage. No big dreams to take over the world (although that did exist at some stage until the industry starts to ground you). Although would love to put out more tracks with some of my own vocals.
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
That I support the message of life being too short to be unhappy, let’s break into those good feelings!
