Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Parham Gharavaisi

Beyond Devastation is my upcoming concept album, scheduled for release on January 1st, 2026. It’s a sidequel to Infect The Clouds and set in the same universe as my short story The Words That Ended The World. The story is set in a universe with a unique antiteleological ontology and features a misanthrope villain protagonist set on a journey of vengeance as an unreliable narrator.
What is your earliest memory connected to music?
I remember playing Need for Speed Most Wanted–the original 2005 classic–and it had two metal songs on its soundtrack: Disturbed’s Decadence and Bullet for my Valentice’s Hand of Blood and they both have remained two of my favorites to this day!
How did your passion for creating music begin?
It all started with video games! When I first picked up the guitar and taught myself how to play, I treated it as a game controller and not an instrument. I believe that’s how I managed to learn it so quickly and produce my first instrumental debut album in just a month or so. I imagined the fretboard as buttons that need to be pressed in certain ways to perform combos and that’s how I learned!
What’s the story behind your current music project?
I’ve been an author before becoming a musician and over the years, I’ve written poems, short stories and non-fiction (e.g. game reviews, guides, etc.). I’ve always thought that perhaps music is not the best medium to tell a story because of the limited length of the lyrics, so I took it as a challenge upon myself to produce a concept album and attempt to tell my story through it.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
My music is a blend of softer genres such as rock and orchestral music with heavier genres such as metal and punk. For the most part, I’d say Melodic Gothic/Doom would be an accurate label.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
It has to be learning to write the orchestral elements and integrating them with the already dense and oftentimes chaotic arrangment of metal songs.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
I play the electric, classical and bass guitar, I also sing and do extreme vocals. The software doesn’t play any crucial role for the most part, you can mix and master in any DAW just with the default plugins that come with it.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
I don’t really listen to music that isn’t my own all that much anymore. In fact, it’s the main reason I make music: to listen to it myself.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
The contrast between the raw aggression of the heavy parts and the beauty of the soft parts are crucial to the atmosphere of my sound; the yin-yang if you will. I think this dynamic is what makes my songs interesting and exciting to listen to.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
My lyrics are very philosophical and intricate in nature, but at the same time, I leave room for interpretation. I’ve explored various topics such as human nature, mental health, social issues, literature, war and abuse among many others. I’d say if you’re looking for philosophy or political commentary, start with my album Ghosts of Nation but if you’re just looking for sick guitar riffs and a story, start with Infect the Clouds.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
Everything can be played like a video game; everything can be broken down into repeatable loops of: input->action->result
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
I don’t play live, I don’t have any social media and I don’t interact with people unless I absolutely need to.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
I have collaborated with many incredibly talented singers, you can find my collaborations on my Greatest Hits compilation albums. In fact, Beyond Devastation is also a collaboration with a truly brilliant artist as the featured singer!

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
Everytime I finish a song that I really like, it becomes my new favorite and I always think I’ll never be able to create anything better, but then I eventually do and surprise myself! So I guess I’m looking forward to more of these surprises…
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
My hope is that my lyrics will make them think about themselves, others and the world around them and maybe shape the world to be a better place.
