Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview eKay Originals

I’m eKay Originals, from Canada, but I’ve been in Europe for a few years. I hope you find my music to be fun, creative, innovative and amusing. I write songs about topics that nobody else writes about, or I write about topics that everyone writes about with a completely unique – and usually funny – slant.
What is your earliest memory connected to music?
My Dad playing the piano. He was a really great pianist.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
It started later in life, when I was in my mid-20s. I had taken piano lessons as a kid, hated it, then quit, but I drifted back to the piano, started playing by ear and then all of a sudden, songs started coming out of me. Then I taught myself guitar and that opened even more doors.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
I want people to enjoy the music in my songs, and since most of my songs try to funny, I want them to be able to laugh as well
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
Eclectic (mostly) funny rock and country songs, but there’s a hint of ‘80s in my stuff too because that’s what I grew up on.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
Don’t go over three and a half minutes!!!!
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
I have my piano, guitar, harmonica, Logic Pro X and my Tascam. That’s my team!
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
Although my music mentors all say to listen to music all the time, I don’t, only Radio Flames!
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
I write about life’s funny and ironic elements. There is funny in everything if you look hard enough. I’ve had some tough times, so it’s part of my philosophy to find the lighter, amusing side to life and that’s a way to keep a positive outlook and not let yourself get down.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
Laughter, but reflection on my take on sometimes serious issues, because within the laughter, there is a point of view as well, but sometimes I just like to be silly.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
You have to write for yourself and hope that somehow, someway, others will listen and enjoy, but you do it because it’s your way to express yourself, to stay creative and use and develop your unique skills and voice.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
Never gave that any thought. I guess it will be the one you sign me up for. Graci, amico!
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
I think Matt Johnson from The The would be super cool to have a coffee with, if it also meant collaborating, then wow! Also, Tears for Fears. I always liked these two artists for their tunes and the depth of their lyrics and interesting points of view.
Where can our listeners follow and support your music? (Website,Spotify, IG, links)

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
Get some legit followers on YouTube who look forward to and click on my songs. It’s been very frustrating to post songs and not even have 20 people view them. I think the songs deserve better.
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
That I’m the only person in the world who can write a classy fart song. (See my song called Holding One In For You). I hope they discover that I write songs about things no one else does, they’re good songs, musically, and the lyrics are like no one else out there, funny and clever
