Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Austin Grimm

austin grimm

Nashville, TN – Billboard-charting artist and former frontman of Roots of a Rebellion, Austin Grimm, is stepping into a new artistic chapter with his debut solo album, Garden of Youth, arriving on all platforms December 12, 2025. Rooted in folk, island-inspired rhythms, and heartfelt Americana, the record is a nostalgic reflection on growing up, personal growth, and the quiet power of everyday life.

“This record is a culmination of the last 20 years of my life experiences and influences,” says Grimm. “It’s the most honest representation of my soul’s artistry as it includes songs I wrote 18 years ago as well as 18 months ago. It ultimately signifies me coming back to my roots.”

The album weaves coastal acoustic textures with poetic storytelling and features standout tracks like:

  • “Garden of Youth” – A tender exploration of identity, home, and self-growth.
  • “Five Again” – A raw, nostalgic look at childhood innocence, written when Grimm was just 18.
  • “Love From Above” – A universal love song inspired by The Four Agreements, built on nylon guitar, Bass VI, and spaghetti western sounds with latin rhythms.
  • “Dancing Seed” – A joyful, bluegrass-inspired anthem for the fearless souls who bring dance floors to life.
  • “Thinking Too Much” – A feel-good jam about anxiety, introspection, and self-liberation.
  • “Relationships” – A deeply human track about the beauty and struggle of human connection.

To celebrate the release, “Austin Grimm & Them Gold Souls” (his newly formed band in his hometown of St. Louis, MO) celebrated early with two Vinyl Release Parties which SOLD OUT Joe’s Cafe in St. Louis, MO and 3rd and Lindsley in Nashville, TN! Fans were fascinated by how authentic and wholesome Grimm’s new sound captures his essence as an artist and were excited to be the first to experience the music live and take it home on vinyl!

Garden of Youth is for listeners who find beauty in simplicity, truth in storytelling, and healing in music. It’s a journey home — to self, soul, and sound.

For fans of: Jack Johnson, James Taylor, Jim Croce, Trevor Hall, Cas Haley

What is your earliest memory connected to music?

Started taking piano lessons with my mom by my side at 5 years old.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

Music was always a part of family get-togethers. Gathered around the piano singing songs as my mom played piano, my dad played guitar, my older siblings played as well.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

“Garden of Youth” is me returning to my roots as a guy with a guitar inspired to express himself and connect with others in a deeply personal way in which music profoundly does like nothing else.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

James Taylor meets Jack Johnson meets Jim Croce meets John Mayer.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

My old band Roots of a Rebellion’s producer Craig Welsch told us while in the studio to treat everything that we recorded as GOLD–meaning that it will live forever! This helped me remember to take my time and make sure every little sound and word is exactly what I want my art to be.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

My guitar, banjo, ukulele, spending time in nature, with family, bouncing ideas off my wife who helped me co-write several of these tunes.

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

Khruangbin is a staple in my musical diet. Also Tony Rice.

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

My family is integral to my artistry. My songs are deeply personal, reflective and philosophical.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

A feeling of oneness. Self acceptance. Grace. Hope. Faith. Love. Strength to carry on.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

Music is a world within itself and it’s an honor and a blessing to be a part of it!

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN.

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

Sierra Ferrell
