Formula Indie Sessions – Interview with Sam Burchfield

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
I remember my Mom swinging me around in the playroom listening to Michael Jackson and the BeeGees. She was doing some stair stepping work out routine probably in the early 90s. Full on disco party.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
I always enjoyed the freedom to create. It started with just play as a kid. Playing legos, building forts in the woods and playing pretend. Once I picked up a guitar I was hooked and never really looked back
What’s the story behind your current music project?
My current music project is just me. They are inseparable, I’m living out my art and creating it and figuring it out as I go
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music
before?
Probably would call it indie folk or americana. Who knows anymore
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
Have fun.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
For me in the writing stage it’s mostly me and a guitar or piano or some other stringed instrument. The studio is always a new experience, new sounds and new people to collaborate. I like to keep myself from being in too much of a routine with the actual production
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
Really love Michael Nau
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
Without a doubt. That’s what it is all about.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
I hope they resonate with truth, beauty and goodness. Deep down my music has a very intentional feeling of hope, I believe
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
Trust yourself
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
Red Rocks!
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
Awww man, Paul McCartney. Just being present with him while writing would be so neat
Where can our listeners follow and support your music? (Website,Spotify, IG, links)
All the places!
www.samburchfield.com will get you most of them.
Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical
journey?
I just want to keep making art, to spend more time with friends and more time in nature. Not sure it gets better than that!
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
Gosh, I hope they discover something about themselves really. I hope people discover that they are innately beautiful and powerful, and that life is worth living and love is worth giving.
