Formula Indie Sessions Interview with Alex Sandra

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
My earliest real memory connected to music was when I was 13.
My friend and I went to her place to hang out, and her older brother was playing video games.
He had Linkin Park – In the End blasting from the speakers.
I remember stopping mid-sentence.
I’d never heard rock like that before — the piano, the aggression, the pain in Chester’s voice.
It hit me like a punch. My life changed forever
How did your passion for creating music begin?
My passion for creating music began because music was my escape.
I grew up in a very dysfunctional environment, and nothing around me felt safe or stable.
Music was the only thing that made me feel something other than fear or confusion.
It gave me a place to exist when reality didn’t
What’s the story behind your current music project?
It’s about how society tries to reduce us to functions —
women as bodies for reproduction, men as labor and soldiers, artists as content factories.
We’re treated like biological material instead of human beings with identity, soul, and purpose.
For me, Biomass isn’t just a record — it’s a rebellion.
It’s me taking every experience that tried to dehumanize me and turning it into sound, anger, power, and connection.
Each song is a different chapter of that journey: trauma, shame, rage, survival, identity, and finally reclaiming my voice.
I wanted to build a world where people who feel misunderstood and “too much” can finally feel seen.
I’m not trying to impress gatekeepers or fit into someone’s playlist category.
I’m building a community of people who hear these songs and say,
“That’s me. I’ve lived this. I survived too.”
That’s the story behind Biomass —
it’s human,, uncomfortable, and alive
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
My music carries emotion, lots anger and passion.
It’s metalcore and alternative rock with big choruses, cinematic atmosphere, and vocals that shift from powerful screams to vulnerable melodies.
My sound is raw, intense, and human — it feels like therapy and a battlefield at the same time.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
I used to think I wasn’t good enough or talented enough to write a real song or be a big artist.
I thought music belonged to people who were born “special.”
Turns out the only thing you really need is to be yourself and do your best to create the most honest art you can.
Writing songs isn’t magic.
It’s a skill — and you can learn it.
The more I showed up, the more I wrote, the more I failed and tried again,
the more I realized that talent is just persistence disguised as passion.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
For me the essential tools are simple.
I co-write with my producer. I write ideas with a guitar, a piano, random notes on my phone, and a voice memo when inspiration hits in the car or at 3 a.m.
I’m not the type of artist who needs a perfect studio to create — if I feel something, I capture it. Also I use garage band to track my vocals for demos
If a melody or a lyric makes my heart react, that’s when I know it’s worth building into a full song.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
Lo Spirit
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
My personal experiences shape everything I create.
I didn’t grow up in a stable or supportive environment, and for a long time I didn’t feel seen or understood.
Music became a place where I could take pain, shame, anger, and turn them into something powerful.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
Inspiration, empowerment and belonging to something bigger
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
Keep going no matter what’s. If you’re not going to do it, no one will.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
Aftershock in Sacramento
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
Alex Terrible

What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
I hope listeners discover that I’m someone who came from a broken family — nothing was handed to me, nothing was easy.
If I made it this far, you can too.
Everything is possible.
You don’t need the perfect background or the perfect life to chase what you love.
You just need to believe in yourself and refuse to give up.
