What is your earliest memory connected to music?

I played violin from a very early age, I recall scratching away in the kitchen with my mother a very patient audience.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

There was a lot of music around the house, so I feel like it was hard to escape.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

Cannibal Spiders started around 2016 as a kind of a jammy thing with Brian Campeau (voice and guitar), Abel Cross (bass), Danny Heifetz (drums) and me (guitar). Over time it has become a bit more of a composed project, culminating in our new album ‘Moonshine’, released November 20 on Romero Records.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

It falls somewhere between ambient surf and punk grind.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

I make music in a lot of very different styles, which I guess would have been inspired by listening to just anything and everything, including other genre-bending composers like John Zorn and Ennio Morricone.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

Guitar is pretty crucial.

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

Yamantaka // Sonic Titan

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

I tend not to write blatantly autobiographical songs, but I do find that whatever is going on in my life has a subliminal effect on the mood of the music I am creating.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

Ultimately I just hope that they feel something!

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

It has taught me to think on my feet – in regards to musical improvisation, but also the ever-changing landscape of how/where we find ourselves releasing and performing music.

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

I guess I don’t tend to fantasise about venues or festivals that are out of reach, so yeah I’d just like to play at any great places where we would belong.

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

My favourite collaborations are usually with the musicians that I have a rapport and connection with. But maybe Cannibal Spiders could collaborate with Deefhoof? That might be fun.

Where can our listeners follow and support your music? (Website,Spotify, IG, links)

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?

I would love to collaborate more with these musicians, as part of Cannibal Spiders or otherwise. I have some ideas for some future sounds but probably too early to tell exactly where things will go.

What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?

I hope that they realise we are their new favourite band.
