Formula Indie Sessions : Interview with RIIIVER JORDAN

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
My earliest memory connected to music is either walking in on my mom watching PRINCE perform with a guitar, followed by being in the studio with my step dad as a child while he worked with some of today’s big names. I loved making up routines and forcing my siblings to do them with me.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
I have always loved to dance and sing for fun but in the 5th grade I did my first talent show with my siblings and won. After that creating routines or just playing in the studio felt like living.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
Departing The Moon is my first EP meant to not only showcase my talent across genres but to end a chapter in my life and begin the next. This is coming from being after being discovered by Nick Cannon while working 3 jobs and chasing the dream all while living in my car. I was able to create this project and actually finish it. This was right before the shut down so I am excited to let this music breathe and reach the world as I believe much of the music is about letting go, finding love in life and self, and remembering why I create to begin with.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
My music is always rich in tone and texture no matter what I sing or speak. I would describe my music as Music built for dreamers, for believers, and for people who are still becoming. Pop that breathes. R&B that lifts. Hip-hop confidence with soul. It’s melodic, honest, cinematic, and always intentional.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music? I have learned patience with myself and also freedom with myself. Too often we let the
outside world affect what we create when really we are to create authentically from the inside out, though inspired by our lives. Learning to just create authentically has changed everything.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process? I absolutely love the Electric Guitar. It’s a favorite sound adding emotion and more to any
song. I also love natural lighting from candles.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
Right now one of my favorite songs by an Indie Artist is “I CANT GO OUTSIDE” By Josh Levi
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision? Living out of my car was one of the most life changing experiences of my life, as it was a
choice. I originally thought it would only be for a couple days and it turned into 14 months. This showed me who I was and who I wanted to become. This also forced me to recall my WHY. So much of this moment taught me about ME while also giving my parts to share with others especially those chasing that dream as well. Resilience and passion have been like life force energy in getting to where I am now and even this is only the beginning.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work? I hope listeners can hear my music and FEEL SOMETHING, that’s all. I want to invoke
emotion and movement. To sing, dance, or listen through whatever they may be going through and also know ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE because look at what I am able to create even when the odds may have been against me.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
Be true to you and your music will reach all the places it was meant to and that’s what matters. Authenticity continues to be the lesson. and just create dont judge. We get better along the way
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
I will perform at COACHELLA one day. It is a dream.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why? I would create with Chris Brown and Michael Jackson. I strive to put on a great show
intentionally and vocally and performance wise they are who I have always been inspired by or look too.
Where can our listeners follow and support your music? (Website,Spotify, IG, links) My music can be found on ANY and ALL streaming platforms as RIIIVER JORDAN and
also my website WWW.BLUPRINC.COM
Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
I am looking towards a small tour that allows me to perform but also see places around the world and give back, speak, and inspire not just with music but however I can for those in need around the world especially the homeless since I have seen it first hand. The River Jordan gave my mother hope it is why she chose the name so thats what I want to bring.
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
I hope viewers discover I am more than meets the eye.
