Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Dramalove

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
Watching my dad playing classical guitar in his shop just below the house me and my brother grew up. I think music has always been in our DNA
How did your passion for creating music begin?
We grew up watching our older brothers playing in rock and metal bands in the underground scene of Turin, our hometown. It just came like a natural decision, growing up among guitar, concerts and so on
What’s the story behind your current music project?
Me and my brother started under the name of NoGravity more than 16 years ago, so it’s hard to put it all in a nutshell. After doing cover songs in many venues in our hometown, we changed name, started a strong live music activity and signed a record deal in 2009 with a major label.. the rest is history. MTV, X-Factor, then UK press and touring and so on.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
Imagine if Muse, Deftones and poetic songwriting had a son.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
That the moment you have created a song and put it out in the world, you are already successful.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
I still write the old fashioned way, pen on paper. Then we record our demos on a DAW called Reaper, very similar to Logic
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
Artemas
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
I would say it’s mostly romantic relationships, but then of course all the major events during a lifetime. Writing and playing music has always been helping like if it’s therapy
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
That nothing is impossible. We come from working class families, and when you win as an “underdog” it all has a better taste
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
To never give up and to believe in myself
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
Glastonbury Festival
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
Probably Muse these days, and of course legends like Michael Jackson or Elvis Presley
