What is your earliest memory connected to music?

Listening to my dad play the piano when I was young.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

Probably when I stated singing in a small group when I was a teenager. Started writing songs then.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

I decided to write a love reggae album because I felt it would be therapeutic for me in my dating journey and I knew that many would be able to related to the emotions of the songs and my hope was that the vulnerability of the songs would help others to be able to express vulnerability in relationships as well.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

A mix of roots reggae, a little fusion of soul  and a sprinkle of jazz elements.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

There are no rules. Write what you feel. Trends come and go.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

I often go to my piano in my living room to play with melodies if I’m focused on writing a melody. Other times if it comes to me naturally I just record what comes to my head on my phone.

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

I love Raye. I also love Mortimer.

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

I am not boxed into one topic – I feel free to write about the various emotions that are authentic to my current state.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

For this particular project – Love Manifesto I hope listeners feel the authenticity of the various emotions and realize it’s ok to be completely honest in every stage of a relationship. And you don’t have to get it right all the time.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

Music is the language of freedom. And my drive to continue to create is to make people remember how to be free and vulnerable. For me creating it also has helped me to be more courageous.

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

Wow – I have a few. Madison Swuare Garden is one. The Jimmy Falloon show…

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

Jill Scott

Sade

Alicia Keys

I love admire their musicality and I see them as legends.
