Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Tekkk

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
My earliest memory of music takes me back to our home, where my dad’s cassette player filled the rooms with amazing Afrobeat, Reggae and Gospel songs. Those early sounds shaped my connection to music.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
My passion for creating music began when I was a curious kid, listening to the incredible songs that filled the air from my dad’s player. Like any child, I was fascinated by the sounds, and I found myself wondering how the artists behind those tracks managed to create such magic. Over time, that curiosity grew into a deep desire to make music of my own, to not just enjoy it, but to create it and share my own stories through sound.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
‘No Time’ is inspired by a real-life experience. It’s about a girl I liked, and the song became my way of expressing how I felt in that moment. The title ‘No Time’ reflects the feeling of being caught in that situation where it seems like time is going. It’s raw, honest, and a bit vulnerable. Just me putting my emotions into music and letting it speak for itself.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
If I had to describe my music to someone who’s never heard it before, I’d say it’s like honey—sweet, smooth, and easy to take in, but with a depth that sticks with you. It’s the kind of sound that lingers, something that feels comforting but also leaves an impression long after you’ve heard it.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
One thing I’ve learned that completely changed the way I make music is that music born from a place of honesty just hits different. It’s like the way true-story movies feel more powerful—they connect on a deeper level because they’re real. When I’m authentic in my music, it resonates with people in a way that’s far more impactful than just making something that sounds good.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
My creative process can vary depending on the vibe I’m feeling at the moment. Sometimes, I’ll start with basic chords on the piano or guitar—just letting the music flow naturally. Once I have a structure in place, I move over to my DAW, where I can really shape the sound and bring everything to life. It’s all about finding the right vibe and letting the tools follow the inspiration.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
Honestly, the song I’ve been loving the most lately is one of my own unreleased tracks. It’s been on repeat for days. I can’t wait for it to drop, you’re definitely going to love it when it does.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
My personal experiences have definitely played a huge role in shaping my music and artistic vision. I believe that every song needs a story, it doesn’t have to be my own personal experience, but I draw inspiration from the stories of others as well. Whether it’s something I’ve gone through or something I’ve witnessed, it’s the emotion behind the story that drives the music.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
I hope listeners can feel the truth in every line. My goal is for my music to resonate on a deep, authentic level. whether it’s the vulnerability, the joy, or the struggles. I want people to connect with the honesty behind the lyrics and take something real away from it.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
The most important lesson music has taught me is that nothing is impossible. No matter how challenging or out of reach something may seem at first, there’s always a way to make it happen if you stay committed and true to the process.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
My dream venues include the 02 Arena in London, Wembley Stadium, Coachella, and Madison Square Garden. Performing on those stages would be a major milestone in my career.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
I actually have a few artists in mind. Jon Bellion is at the top because his artistic excellence and sonic purityinspires me so much. I’d also love to collaborate with Wizkid and Tems – I genuinely love their music and the unique energy they bring to every record.
