Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with HannahLuv

hannah luv

Hey! I’m an indie singer songwriter with a lot of love to give. I know sometimes everyone has feelings they can’t put into words and that’s where my music comes in. I want everyone to feel a little less alone when listening. Thank you for reading and following along!

What is your earliest memory connected to music?

I grew up in a Catholic church so I would sing a lot in a choir and my earliest memory of that was teaching sign language to the younger kids for the song Day By Day.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

I always enjoyed creating things like books and plays but it wasn’t until Covid came along that I truly started to deep dive into creating the music I release today. My friend encouraged me to keep at it while he was also creating his own music and with his support I haven’t given up trying to promote and release more songs.

Also my first song Bumble Bee Buddy was inspired by a very difficult time in my life where I felt like I was losing a lot of what I identified with and seeing how much joy and support it brought to people I never met encouraged me as well.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

My most recent project Three Chances is inspired by the challenge I and many others face with relationships, being friendships or others. We’re always holding on to things we should let go of whether because we need to work on ourselves or the relationship simply needs time and space apart to grow. A lot of my songs circle around this theme of melancholic loss and Three Chances falls into the darker side of that where you blame yourself for the rift.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

I would describe it as acoustic Sunday morning music.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

That a song doesn’t have to be a masterpiece to mean something to a listener.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

My guitar, garage band, lo fi drums, a great producer always helps and friends who are willing to go the extra mile when you need it.

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

I’m loving Lucy Dacus right now. And I love Night Shift and Ankles by her.

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

Definitely. My song I Fell In Love With the Sun was inspired in part by my time in London and learning about my love of being a bi musician who has experiences dating women as well as men.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

I hope they learn that it’s ok to feel your emotions to the fullest extent of them as long as you’re finding comfort in doing so and it helps you move on from whatever you’re struggling with.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

That it is a language that can bring people from every walks of life together.

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

The Meadows music festival because that was the first music festival I ever got the privilege to see and I’d love the chance to come back there as a performer.

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

I would collaborate with Amy Winehouse, I think, because even though we have very different styles I’ve always loved her music and I think she’d be an interesting person to meet.

What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?

That I care deeply for people and my listeners.
