Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with iNOCULTO

Acoustic rock from Córdoba Capital. Formed in 2016 by Emanuel Ramseyer on guitar and Marcos Ceballos on vocals. After years of live performances, 2024 marks the studio debut of the duo. The self-titled album features ten songs that blend powerful riffs with melodic arpeggios, raw yet soft and calm vocals, and lyrics inspired by fragments of literature and poetry. Always brushing against alternative rock and its subgenres, Inoculto’s main trait is a well-defined, clear, and precise sound. The band proves that strength, power, and harmony need nothing more than two people to come alive.
Inoculto is the one who knows how to express what they feel through screams and whispers.
Inoculto is the one who, with six strings, dethrones misery and transforms distant sorrows and uneasy silences into melody.
What is your earliest memory connected to music?
(Marcos, singer) For me, the first thing that comes to mind is sunday mornings at home in Bell Ville, my hometown. I’d wake up to jazz or classical music playing at full volume coming from the kitchen while my dad started preparing lunch or a barbecue. Then there were my brother’s classic heavy metal records and ’90s rock. I was really curious about the album covers, and those songs blew my mind. I started buying rock magazines (Madhouse –from Argentina-, RIP, Kerrang!, etc.) and my own CDs.
(Emanuel, guitar) In my case, when I was a child, I listened to The Beatles and Elvis Presley when my father played them in the mornings before going to work. I only had two cassettes with that kind of music, and I really enjoyed sitting next to the radio cassette player and listening to those songs and melodies.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
(Marcos) The creation of my own melodies and lyrics began years later, while living in the city of Córdoba. Everything I did before, musically speaking, involved garage bands with friends, playing covers and all that. When I met Emanuel, he told me he was a guitarist and showed me some of his songs, and from then on, my own melodies and lyrics began to emerge once in a while.
(Emanuel) At age 13, after listening to Nirvana’s Nevermind for the first time, everything changed.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
(Marcos) Our project began almost 22 years ago, when we started jamming together and the songs gradually took shape. Always acoustic, just guitar and vocals, but always just for fun, until 2008/09, when I was invited to join a powerful blues-rock project and brought Ema on board. We were in that band (Casta de Malditos) for eight years. I think that’s where we developed a much more powerful sound that has stayed with us to this day. Casta de Malditos broke up in 2015, and from then on, Inoculto was born as a serious project, just guitar and vocals, nothing more. Now we got an album released last year and one to be release this month. (Nov. 13th).
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
Simple, authentic, different, and original.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
(Emanuel) That simple melodies can also reach the same place as complex ones.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
(Emanuel) An acoustic and electric guitar as our main creative instrument; sometimes Marcos contributes ideas with his piano, and then we add vocal melodies. We usually use digital tools to record these ideas once they’re conceived.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
(Emanuel) I like Radiohead, Artic Monkeys, Florence + The Machine, R.E.M and recently, I´m listening Twenty One Pïlots. I really enjoy them.
(Marcos) Radiohead, of course… I like Fleet Foxes too, form Seattle. Love those vocal armonies and Los Alamos, an argentinien indie blues/rock band, they´re great.I recommend you.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
(Emanuel) Me, having lived for almost 10 years at a stage in my life where I had to study more than 8 hours a day and where I didn’t have time to create music, I accumulated a lot of ideas and musical melodies that I am now able to express.
(Marcos) In my case, lyrics in our albums reflects a lot of my life experiences, specially our last album “Como Una Sombra” that it will be release next 13 this month.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
(Emanuel) I hope that the music, melodies, and lyrics are appreciated by the people who listen to our music and that they can represent or remind them of a moment or stage in their lives.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
(Marcos) Well… It’s never too late to play it and always someone’s gonna like what you are doing, no matter how many, always will be someone that will appreciatte what your music.
(Emanuel) Music should be made however it comes to you, because that’s what gives it a stamp of authenticity.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
(Emanuel) Anywhere in Europe, or the United States would be great to showcase our music.
(Marcos) I agree. Of course, we would like to play around the world… but I can’t name you a specific festival.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
(Marcos) So many… past or present. But I think Jack White would be the one.
(Emanuel) It could also be John Frusciante and Dave Navarro.
