MUSIC FOR YOUR EARS | REVIEW Black Rainbow (ft. Chris Conde) by Devin James Fry

Devin James Fry, a musician and producer based in Denver, Colorado, USA, is an intriguing artist known for his work as the vocalist and songwriter of the adventurous psych rock band Name Sayers. His latest song, Black Rainbow, offers a unique perspective that was inspired by, of all things, a physics textbook. Fry began to see existence as something without design, and made him want to investigate what happens after death, as well as the reality of existence, which he has done through the medium of music and dance.

When he shared the concept of Black Rainbow with Brooklyn rapper Chris Conde, Conde swiftly decided to collaborate and produced a verse that followed with the song’s theme. Additionally, Cassandra Hayes contributed backing vocals to complete the collaboration and create what was to become Black Rainbow

Devin James Fry’s forthcoming album, titled RETRELLION, scheduled for release on April 11, 2023, offers a collection of psych/synth/pop explorations. The album’s title is a reflection of the societal breakdown and changes in norms that occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic. Fry explains that when titling the album he sought a word that encapsulated the essence of both retreat and rebellion, embodying the spirit of the album’s creation.

Black Rainbow is a significant work that boasts a unique melody and original rhythm. The unusual keyboard arrangements combine with the memorable vocals to create a listener experience like no other. Particularly significant is the chorus, as it deviates from conventional structures and leaves a lasting impression.

For those who enjoy exploring different genres and musical styles, Black Rainbow presents a golden opportunity to move away from conventional hip-hop rap, electronic, and psych pop, and experience something musically truly different. Devin James Fry’s Black Rainbow invites listeners to embark on a captivating musical journey that will not leave them indifferent.
