“Maelström” is about listening to the self-created doubts that often drag you down. Whatever
your job, hobby or goal is, it is sometimes hard to keep moving forward : there are all the
reasons in the world that might make you want to quit. In those moments, you deal with
anxiety, you feel very alone and vulnerable and the purpose of those moments is to find the
strength to get rid of all these thoughts and keep on going on.
This song started as a cover from a Led Zeppelin song in which Ständard added an intro of his
own. Listening to this cover again and again, he fell in love with his intro and decided to keep
it and quickly built Maelström around it. And, in a kind of a challenge to himself, he decided
to build the song with the intro 2 chords. So, besides the outro at 3min29 and the 6 second
break a 1min57, the song only contains Gm and D chords.
The captivating single “Maelström” by Ständard is out September 10th.
