Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with yussi

What is your earliest memory connected to music?

I remember loving children’s songs when I was in kindergarten. My teacher would often sing them for us, and I would listen and sometimes laugh, sometimes even cry. At the time, I didn’t really recognize it as “music.” It just came to me as emotion

How did your passion for creating music begin?

I always loved listening to music, but I never really thought about singing myself. When I was in elementary school, I was bullied for a while. There was a music class where each student had to sing in front of everyone. When it was my turn, I was really nervous, but I sang anyway. I guess I did better than I expected—the teacher really liked it, and even the kids who used to bully me left me alone that day. I think that was the moment, even unconsciously, when I felt like I was meant to do music.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

My most recent release doesn’t really have a complex story behind it. It’s more like a tribute to beauty. I think I wrote the lyrics with the intention of lifting someone’s confidence. In my music overall, I tend to focus on themes like love and religion. Since my stories aren’t very provocative, I try to keep things interesting by focusing more on my vocal tone.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

My sound is simple, but it has a sharp edge. I try to make it feel light, but still carry some depth.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

I’ve been making music since I was 14, and my approach hasn’t really changed much since then. So I don’t think there’s been a specific moment or realization that completely changed the way I work.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

I mainly use Cubase and Splice. I’m not very familiar with music theory or complex chords, so I rely more on what I hear. I usually start by writing melodies over chord progressions, record the vocals, and then build the track with kick, snare, and hi-hat samples. Sometimes I use type beats

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

I’ve been listening to a Korean artist, g0nny, a lot lately. I especially like his song last Scene.

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

If you listen to my vocals now, there’s a slightly melancholic tone to them. I used to have a more playful and bright style. When I was 19, both of my parents passed away under difficult circumstances, and that had a significant impact on my voice. It became more serious, and I think my music overall became darker after that. I used to make more light and playful music, but after going through that experience, my work naturally became more serious.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

I think people these days have lost a lot of love. Honestly, I feel the same way. That’s why, when I make music, I try to put as much love into it as possible. In real life, I’m not really a very loving person, to be honest. But I hope my music can be comforting and help people feel that sense of love. I might not be able to give it as a person, but I think I can express it through music.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

Music has given me a lot, and it has taught me a lot. It feels like something that will stay with me for life. It’s hard to choose just one lesson, but if I had to, I’d say it taught me that if I keep working at something, I can eventually do it. I never really felt like I had talent in anything—I was honestly pretty bad at most things. But music showed me that even I could become good at something. It also taught me to stay humble over time.

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

I haven’t had many opportunities to perform yet, so I don’t think I’m in a position to aim for big venues or festivals right now. But I would really like to put on a well-structured solo concert that fully reflects my intentions.

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

I don’t really have anyone in mind right now. I’m not very used to collaborating yet. It’s not that I don’t want to work with others—it’s just something I’m still getting comfortable with.

Where can our listeners follow and support your music? (Website,Spotify, IG, links)

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?

I want to release a very standard full-length album. Rather than something flashy or being called a “masterpiece,” I’d prefer to make something that feels comfortable to listen to anytime, like a steady seller. It might not sound like an exciting goal, but that’s honestly the only thing that comes to mind for me.

What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?

Every sound, instrument, and vocal in my music is fully intentional. I’d like listeners to recognize that intention. I don’t have many fans yet, but the small group I do have seems to understand it.
