Formula Indie Sessions – Interview with Manic Youth

How would you describe your sound?
We would describe our music as pop songs at heart, dressed in a lot of fuzz and distorted guitars.
Our influences are pretty broad, from indie, to death metal but we’ve always had a penchant for melancholy sounds and songs that feel dreamy and melodic but have a harsher edge to them.

What is one thing you’ve learned that changed the way you make music?

We all grew up together as teenagers and we’ve been friends and making music together for 12 years so we’ve learnt how to do it together.
The process has been different every record and we’ve learnt that it’s about the people you make it with, and not necessarily the tools you have at hand.

Which indie artists are you loving right now?

Our friends in the local scene – sakura, swelle, bicycle terror, trauma glow, ghost ambulance, absent from the morning head count, combat beach – off the top of my head.

What emotions or messages?

Come as you are, feel whatever you want, just don’t be an asshole.

Dream venue or festival?

We don’t have a dream venue or a festival,
We’re just happy to play.

If you could collaborate with any artist past or present?

Sparklehorse, Metallica, cat power, kiss, sonic youth, Britney Spears.

Where can we find your music?

On all streaming services, but it’s always nice to see real people at a show.
