Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Dj Bild Erect

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
There are a few but my favourite is as a child of around 3 years old, my father would stop at the record store on his way home from work on Fridays. It may sound strange, but the smell of the vinyl records was intoxicating to me. Then I would always want to be the one to play it on the family stereo for the first time.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
It began with changing the lyrics to songs in elementary school, the sort of thing that Werid Al Yankovich does. Then at around the age of 10 I thought, “why not create my own lyrics for a beat from beginning to end?” Thus the journey began.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
The singles I’ve released so far are a build up to my first album release, set for Spring 2026. Getting my feet wet in the production side of things and spreading the vibes across multiple genres.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
Old school arrangements with modern Electronic beats backing intense lyrics.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
Not to overthink the process. When a sound pops into my head I’ll record it in the moment, maybe put it aside, then revisit it weeks or months later or whenever the inspiration flows to create a melody and write lyrics for it.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
As far as tools, it may sound strange but my DJ equipment plays a part in confirming to me that a beat is worthy, whether up or downtempo. If it doesn’t sound crisp and booming, I re-work it until it does. Instruments that are key to me are Drum, Bass and Piano.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
Showrocka with a track called Area 51. Are there truly secrets of extra-terrestrial life there?
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
The most obvious is the experience as a mobile DJ and radio host. If I don’t think that a beat/song/lyric will get an emotional reaction from the audience, I move on to creating a track that does.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
For this upcoming album, the message is about finding romance, partying and affirming love and self-confidence. The next album will have even more varied themes.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
Patience. As well as a newfound respect for music production and music marketing.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
The Rogers arena inToronto, Ibiza in Spain, The 02 in London, A football stadium in Ghana, Copacobana Beach in Brazil. Anywhere that enjoys my productions really. 😊
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
I’ll start with the why, which is Soulful voices. Artistes not with us anymore would be Nat King Cole, Ronald Isley, Aretha Franklin. Still with us would be Anita Baker, Maria Carey, Gerald Albright, Sevyn Streeter, Frank Ocean, Leon Bridges, Leela James, Childish Gambino and too many more to mention.
Where can our listeners follow and support your music? (Website,Spotify, IG, links)

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
The next chapter will showcase more musical and thematic diversity across even more genres. As well as recording with live bands, never AI.
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
That I’m really just a pipeline channeling positive energy from the universe and transfering such energy into a form that’s relatable to humans.
