Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview crybaby!!

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
My first memory is when I started playing in 2008, at the age of 9, while I was learning my first chords.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
From the moment I started playing, I always wanted to write songs, but I couldn’t manage to do it at first. Over time, after trying again and again, I began to compose—songs I’m not proud of today—, but which I believe laid the foundation for the way I write music now.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
I currently play with crybaby!!, an alternative rock band that’s been around for a year and has played over 40 shows. We play live whenever we can. During this first year, we released two EPs (“Polémico” and “Fijate qué lejos llegó la decadencia”) and a B-side single. The band consists of Martín Kohan on drums, Nicolas Cabrera on guitar, R on guitar, Venus on bass, and Mateo Figueroa on vocals, tambourine, and delay.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
We’re an angry, abrasive band that tears everything down every time we play live.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music? Making noise with the guitar became a tool that helped me a lot to compose the way I do
today.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process? Guitar, and any software allows me to make demos. I usually use GarageBand and
Ableton Live.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
I really enjoy “Rio Fuego” by Miedo Puro.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision? In my case, personal experiences are very significant in the lyrics I write. Being angry at
someone helps me a lot when writing good songs—basically, most of the band’s songs are built on that principle.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work? Anger, chaos, disorientation, and violence.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
How rewarding it is when a song you wrote is chanted by a place full of excited young people.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
Lollapalooza.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why? Sonic Youth, because of the influence they had on my band.

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
To sell out Luna Park.
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way? The rage and euphoria that a rock band can generate, the way it used to be—and what I
believe has been lost the most from the genre.
