Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Claudi

1) What is your earliest memory connected to music?
My earliest memory of music is with my grandparents, who were both dancers.
Their home was full of warmth and color, and music felt like a constant presence, like the rhythm of life itself, the TV always on, the room buzzing with sound.
I would spend hours singing and dancing in front of it, following along with Raffaella Carrà, Sabrina Salerno, and Jo Squillo.
I think it was in those moments, among those steps, smiles, and that energy, that my deepest, most instinctive connection to music was born.

2) How did your passion for creating music begin?
I can’t say exactly when it started, because it has always been part of me.
Music has always been instinctive, something I felt naturally, as if it were part of who I am.

3) Whats the story behind your current music project?
It is a story of pure passion and constant conflict between heart and mind.

For years, I let the practical side of life prevail, convincing myself that I could put my artistic streak aside. But over time, through challenges and difficult years, I realized how much I had ignored my true nature. This realization led to a rebirth, and with it, music returned to my life.

Claudí was born here.

4) How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
My sound comes from the awareness that none of us is ever just one thing.

Its a flow that shifts in language, rhythm, and form whenever it needs to.

I create music that embraces this natural fluidity and celebrates its subtle variations, because its these details that make an identity truly unique, intense, and alive.

5) What is one thing youve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
Life has taught me that there are no safe paths, fixed forms, labels, or models that you have to fit into in order to have certainty. Adapting to an image that does not reflect who we really are means wearing masks that include us in a system but sometimes exclude us from ourselves. Difficult years have shown me that compromises can wear you down and that sacrifice is not always worth the price you pay. I have learned to trust my instincts, to recognize my values and beliefs, and not to let anyone else decide who I should be. This awareness has changed the way I make music.

6) What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
My creativity works in a somewhat unusual way: many ideas come to me while I’m cycling on the exercise bike. I cant explain why, but thats when something clicks!

I always start with the lyrics and a little melody that I find myself humming along.

Since I’m not a musician, I can’t create the full arrangement on my own, but I define the rhythmic and melodic idea. Then, I hand everything over to skilled and talented hands, who transform that initial spark into a finished track.

7) Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

Thegiornalisti and Calcutta were among the first indie artists I listened to. I also like Brunori Sas, Serena Brancale, Pinguini Tattici Nucleari, and HÅN. Internationally, Chappell Roan, Sophie Castillo, and The Marías inspire me with their sensitivity and originality.

8) How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

As I said before, my personal experiences distanced me from music for a long time, making me believe that I could live without it. But whenever I needed it, it was there: the first helping hand, the first breath after every apnea. During that period, music was not visibility or noise, but silence, intimacy, and protection. How has this influenced my art? Today, my music is refined, self-produced, and rich, while visibility has become a challenge I set for myself.

9) What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

The project was born with a fundamental message: the freedom to be ourselves, to live and embrace every emotion without fear, without shame, without giving up any of our nuances.

If someone listening finds a piece of themselves and feels a deep vibration in their gut,” it would be a huge gift for me. Emotions are not imposed: they are offered. I hope that mine will meet those of the listener.

10) Whats the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

For years, I wore shoes that hurt my feet, thinking that the sacrifice would eventually lead me to better ones, without considering whether they were really right for me. It had to be done. So I ignored music for years, because it was uncertain and risky, until life made me realize, with a dull thud, that no path guarantees the best, despite cultural or social beliefs. Music, at the most difficult time in my life, was the strongest lesson: giving me breath and light, teaching me how harmful it is to deny who we are. There will always be sacrifices and there are no certainties. It is better to focus on shoes that we really feel are ours, even if we risk being left barefoot, but at least it will always be worth it.

11) What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

Every stage is important for musicians. That said, I admit that performing on the Sanremo stage, which represents the history of our musical culture, would be an immense honor. XFactor would also be an intense and stimulating experience.

12) If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

Choosing is difficult, so I’ll suggest two: one from the past and one from the present.

From the past, I would say Mia Martini: an Italian artist who had a profound influence on my musical development. I love her emotional intensity, sensitivity, and constant search for authenticity, combined with an extraordinary voice and unique interpretation. Her solitary and profound character also makes her a complex and inimitable figure.

For the present, definitely Lady Gaga: singer, songwriter, pianist, actress, and producer, with a powerful and versatile voice. I adore her talent, her rebellious and provocative spirit, and her ability to transform herself in every project while always remaining credible. I love the way she transforms pain and difficulty into art, with messages of inclusion, acceptance, and authenticity. I see myself in both of them: they represent the essence of my musical project.

14) Looking toward the future, whats your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?

At the moment, I am content with having realized my dream of bringing music back into the spotlight, giving it the place it deserves in my life and, through this, finally respecting myself. If I could turn all this into something concrete that I could really live with, that would be great.  Dreaming costs nothing, right? In the meantime, I continue to work doing what I love most.

15) What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?

I hope that those who listen to my music will discover a person and an artist who tries to describe life as it is: intense, complex, made up of real emotions, pains, and joys that we can all recognize. With my lyrics and my voice, I try to give shape to these feelings, without filters, languages or definitions, leaving them free to be experienced.
