Formula Indie Sessions – Interview with Volkanoz

What is your earliest memory connected to music?

My earliest memory connected to music is my dad playing guitar for us, singing songs from bands like The Police, Journey, and others in that style. Those moments were my first meaningful contact with music, and that’s where my love for playing an instrument and experiencing music in a more organic way was born.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

My passion for creating music began when I started learning to play guitar. More than an instrument, the guitar became a companion that helped me express what I needed to release. The songs I wrote were a way to translate my emotions and personal experiences. Every song I create with the band is connected to specific moments of my life. That’s why we’re called Volkanoz: because our music erupts naturally, authentically, emotionally, and meaningfully—like a volcano releasing what we carry inside.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

The story behind Volkanoz is the desire to form a natural, authentic band with powerful and meaningful messages—music that awakens real emotions in people and connects on a human and emotional level.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

I would describe our sound as authentic, meaningful, and deeply emotional. It’s not just music; it’s something you can feel and resonate with. We want every chord and melody to generate real sensations and connect with something inside the listener.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

One thing that completely changed my approach to making music was learning to listen and opening myself to new styles. Many people get stuck in a single genre, but when you allow new influences in, your creativity expands. Listening more—and listening differently—transforms you as an artist.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

Everything begins with an acoustic guitar. The lyrics and the initial sound appear almost simultaneously, very naturally. Then I move into electric guitar and add different elements, but the heart of the creative process is always that basic guitar and the emotional spark that comes from it.

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

Right now, I’m loving Bon Iver. His way of composing and expressing emotions inspires me a lot, even though my style leans more toward alternative rock and grunge. I like keeping my ears open to different artists: Bon Iver, Chris Cornell, Audioslave, Coldplay, Pearl Jam, and even classics like Journey. But today, if I have to choose one indie artist I truly love, it’s Bon Iver—especially his early work.

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

My personal experiences influence my music completely. Everything I compose comes from a very intimate, authentic, and emotional place—from what I’m living or what’s happening around me. The need to express emotions through music is the core of Volkanoz. Each song is a sincere expression of what we feel in the moment.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

I hope they feel something. I want them to listen calmly and sense the emotional depth behind each lyric, each riff, each piano or guitar sound. I love when people give their own meaning to our songs. For example, with “Bella Por Siempre,” some hear a story of loss, others of love, others of nostalgia. That’s the beauty of it—each person can give the song their own origin.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

Music has taught me that it’s more than sound—it’s a life companion. It stays with you through every emotion: sadness, joy, love, heartbreak, and every meaningful moment. Music accompanies every stage of life and supports you when words aren’t enough.

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

I would love to perform at Lollapalooza or any international festival—any space where we have the chance to be heard and show what we’re building. A place where our music can find new ears and awaken new emotions.

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

I would have loved to collaborate with Chris Cornell. To me, he was a genius—someone who wrote straight from the soul. Today, I would really like to collaborate with Bon Iver; I love what he’s doing and the emotional depth he transmits.

Where can listeners follow and support your music?

We’re on all streaming platforms, especially Spotify. You can also follow us on Instagram, write to us, comment—we’re very receptive to what people tell us. We feel this journey is something we’re building together: you and us. It’s a shared path.

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?

My dream is to finish the album we’re working on. It’s filled with emotional music meant to take listeners through many different feelings. It’s very meaningful and very “volcanic”: natural, authentic, never forced. We’re truly enjoying the process, and we’re close to finishing it. It will be ready in 2026.

What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?

I hope they discover the emotional depth behind my lyrics, the authentic sound within every phrase, every riff, and every instrument. I want them to understand that each song carries a story, an emotion, a way of living. That is the sound of Volkanoz.
