Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Strange Addiction

channels4_profile (13)

What is your earliest memory connected to music?

Singing in the kitchen when I was 4 years old hiding behind the wall as I was too shy. I think I was born to be a vocalist -haha.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

I was into music from a very early age. At school, I always sang or played guitar or percussion for the school festivals. I took piano lessons in my lunch break too, but I wasn’t so into playing as singing. Also, I was much better at singing and writing, than I was a playing keyboards.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

We met in a cafe, we live a few miles apart. We got talking about music and we went over to Sonke’s studio and started to jam. I had been writing songs for Ibiza, Ministry of Sound etc for some dance producers so had a lot of writing experience. It just seemed to go really well, and

we reworked a few of my old songs and wrote some new ones together.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

Interesting!! Ha, from feedback I have received, Radiohead, Kate Bush, mixed with a touch of Madonna and Goldfrapp! Electronic pop/alternative

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

Just go with what makes you happy. It seems to work

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

Logic (of course) some cool vocal sounds, synths, grand piano, strings. We recently acquired a double bass player for live.

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

Alt-J, Agnes Obel, hugely talented with amazing tunes.

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

Oh yes, hugely. I write from a personal perspective all the time. I feel the world is a very odd place at present, quite disturbing.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

That I am passionate in my beliefs. Anti war, anti coersion, things like that. Letting people know they are not alone in their time of troubles.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

To just keep writing. It is my happy place. I can get alll my frustrations out.

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

Wembley stadium, Glastonbury, all of them!! I love a huge audience, the bigger the better.

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

Kate Bush, she is incredible. She was my first influence as a child. I thought she was weird and quite bizarre at first, but she really was the first of her kind. She influenced so many. From the present, Agnes Obel, amazing Danish performer and writer.
