Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Zoe Gabrielle

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
– My earliest memory is probably just listening to music in the car while my mom played various songs from her CDs (this was in the early 2000s) I would quietly listen to it and day dream about wishing I could be on stage singing.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
-It began a little after COVID when I was bored to be honest haha. I tried by starting to produce and gave up pretty quickly, so I resorted to writing and recording over various youtube beats or with people I would meet on discord. It wasn’t until about about a year later I actually started to put thought into it and tell stories lol
What’s the story behind your current music project?
-Lonely+sad(again) is something I wrote because of my personal style changing, I am really intrigued by Fiona Apple, Gwen Stefani, 90s grunge artists (production wise and aesthetic). But I struggle a lot with my mental health, and someting I noticed was no matter if I was happy, or something positive happened to me, I woul always result to being sad, it felt like my permanent state.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
-Madison Beer and Billie Eilish, but I definitely wanna take a turn with this new song and explore a different aesthetic
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music? -The book Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process? -My voice note app, ableton, and maybe a drink or two
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
-Natalie Madigan, Eli, Kids That Fly, I have absolutely no doubt in my mind these artists will blow up!
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
-They influence everything, especially the emotion that I try and communicate to my audience that I hope is relatable
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
-I want people to relate to how I’m feeling and resignate it in a way that makes them feel seen.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
-Self Kindness and to not think to hard about things
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
-The Sphere in Vegas, even though I would probably get motion sick If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why? -Lily Allen, Amy Allen, or Pharaelle Williams
