Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with DI-NO 2

Processed with Focos
What is your earliest memory connected to music?
My earliest musical memory comes from the Love Parade 1996. This moment completely overwhelmed me: the energy, the bass, the people – that was the moment in which electronic music conquered my heart.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
My passion for making music began in 1998 – at that time still playfully and out of pure curiosity. Friends brought me into contact with Fruity Loops for the first time, and I was immediately fascinated by how to create electronic music with them.
After a longer break, I started my KlangKultur project again in 2010, but only sporadically due to time constraints. It was not until 2025 that I, as DI-NØ, really found the peace and focus to devote myself intensively to my music.
The moment I first heard electronic music at the Love Parade was the trigger. I knew right away: I wanted to do something like that too.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
The stories behind my music are just as multifaceted as the tracks themselves.I work strongly according to mood: sometimes trance-heavy, cheerful and driving – sometimes dark, hypnotic and deep. But one thing always goes through: the intention to touch people and take them with you – be it on the dance floor or on the couch to relax. My new project also connects both worlds: energy and depth, movement and atmosphere.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
My sound is a mix of dark atmosphere and positive energy – often accompanied by hypnotic acid bass lines that give my tracks an unmistakable character.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
I learned not to compare myself to others. You should find your own style and go your own way.In addition, I was characterized by the realization that sometimes less is more: a project does not necessarily need 30 tracks.Sometimes a sound sounds perfect as it is – without ten additional effects.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
I like to start in FL Studio 25 and use plugins like Flex, Toxic Biohazard and Sytrus to develop first ideas.
After that I arrange everything in Ableton Live 12, add samples – often with the simpler – and like to test my tracks as a live set. The recording in the live session then serves as a basis for me to refine everything later. An important part of my sound is also my Behringer TD-3 for bass lines as well as my iPad with Korg iElectribe as a drum sequencer.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
Currently I particularly like the track “Run” by NatSuprise. I also like to listen to Gerald H with his track “Cosmic Tide”.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
My personal experiences have strongly shaped my artistic path. The many years in which I took breaks or started over have shown me how important authenticity is.Today I only make music that really comes out of me – without expectations, without pressure. This makes my sound more honest, raw and closer to myself. The ups and downs in life are often reflected in my tracks: sometimes bright and hopeful, sometimes dark and hypnotic.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
I want people to forget the stress around them as they listen to my music, let themselves be fooled and enjoy the moment. Simply switch off, feel, live – and let the sounds carry you into another world.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
Music has taught me to be patient and to have faith in my own process. Not every track is created immediately, and not every moment is creative. It is important to stay tuned, to stay open and to experiment again and again.Music shows me every day that development takes time – and that every small step pays off.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
An absolute dream would be to play at Tomorrowland – I think that’s what almost every artist in the electronic sector dreams of.But the Sonne-Mond-Sterne Festival also excites me because it has a special atmosphere and is an important part of the German electronics scene.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
I would love to work with Thomas Schumacher. Not because of his great success with “sound” – even if the track is timeless – but because of his sound aesthetics.Especially songs like “Tek29” or “Rhyth-matic” are among my absolute favorites and inspire me a lot.

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
My dream is to leave something behind – a track that is timeless and survives everything. A moment in which someone can completely switch off, forget everything around them and are completely free. If I can create music that touches people over generations, that would be the greatest for me.
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
I hope the listeners feel how much heart and passion is in each of my tracks. That I don’t just produce music, but I turn emotions, memories and stories into sound. And that they notice: Every track is a piece of mine – honest, authentic and with a lot of love for detail.
