This first single from the group ‘DELUJN’ is an inventive soundscape of Desert-Dream-Pop/Rock. You can feel the camaraderie to contemporary artists like Cat Power, Cass McCombs & Beach House as well as the influence of Boomer/Gen-X legends Chrissie Hynde, Neil Young and Echo & the Bunnymen. ‘RIDE IN CHAINS’ comes on like a ballad but lulls you into a trance-like state with its throbbing bass and sinewy riffs. It’s an authentic driving classic, ripping through the desert with a hangover, headed back to an unruly reality. A neurotransmission of slinky keyboards & biorhythms straddling polychrome guitars, the song’s lyrics are preoccupied with colossal angst, the destructive capabilities of half-truths & the listless shock that the deep end is rather shallow. ‘Catastrophe & Cure’ have been at the top of their game for almost a decade now. With their 2020 album Somewhere Down the Line the quintet has rekindled its love for guitar driven-songwriting. Their latest single ‘Cracks in the Pavement’ is a powerful indie rock song with driving drums, jingly guitars, subtle but elegant vocal melodies and just the right amount of a 90s vibe. For the first time, Catastrophe & Cure teamed up with one of Austria’s brightest musical talents, Katrin Paucz of the band Sharktank, whose vocal performance gives the chorus that certain something.
