Stephanie from Strange & The Familiars says

My name is Stephanie Strange, I lead and represent the group Strange & The Familiars based out of Portland, Oregon. Our new single, “Pie”, was released on September 16th alongside a music video collaboration that is of unique interest.

For the last several years I’ve had the good fortune to be involved in one of the nation’s only art schools for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, PHAME. Through my work teaching there, I connected with Crystal Kralian, an autistic student interested in video animation, and we began discussing a collaboration. When the quarantine lockdown hit, Crystal and I decided to work together and began collaborating on a stop-motion animated video concept via Zoom calls, which has become the official music video for the Strange & The Familiars single, “Pie”.

“Pie” is a song about hope, strength, and people coming together during difficult circumstances. It’s a message that has resonated with the band’s community throughout these difficult last few years, and the collaboration itself has been extremely important to both Crystal and I. Autistic artists have much to say, much to express, yet often aren’t afforded the platform to do so. We’re hoping this music video is a modest first step toward positive change for autistic artists everywhere.
