Outstanding norwegian band ‘One and a half Dog’ from Trondheim made a brilliant work in their new song ‘Shine’ will debut in the Formula Indie the November 23rd

One and a half Dog (Read on and you will get the story behind the name) is a five-piece alternative/hard/classic rock band out of Trondheim, Norway.
The band consists of 5 well grown up guys (age 44-56) with a common interest in quality rock-music.
One and a half Dog was formed in 2017 as a pure hobby-project with the goal of writing and recording enough good songs for a vinyl LP for the members of the band to enjoy when retired.
We had originally no plans for gigging or promoting our music, the whole band-project was purely ment for our own satisfaction.

However, when releasing our two first songs in 2019 we discovered an interest out there…… Some people, besides from ourselves, seemed to like what we were doing.
Our debut single Fire in the Hole has now well over 100K streams in Spotify which, to us, seems an amazing number.
Due to Covid 19, the progress has been slow for the last couple of years and our current catalouge consists of only 5 singles, two released in 2019, one in 2020 and two so far in 2021.

The band will continue releasing singles for now, as it forces us to really deliver quality as every song has to stand on it`s own. The album will for sure be released at one point, but we have no such plans for the moment.

The sound of the band is not easy to describe. We don`t want to be put in any genre and consider ourselves “Rock” in the broadest fashion. Our previous songs has been compared to the likes of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest
Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and Tool among others. We get our inspiration way back from the 70s and up to acts of today as Rival Sons and Tool.

Our music is recorded in our own studio and engineered, produced and mixed by the band. Mastering is by Øra Mastering.

The name of the band “One and a half Dog” has it`s explanation. A couple of the bandmembers are dog owners. The lifetime of a dog is about 10 years and when we first got together and planned for our “retirement-abum”
we decided to give ourselves 15 years to finish the album. During the discussion our singer Dag Aure said: “15 years…… that`s about one and a half dog” We all looked at each other and laughed. One and a half Dog!
That has got to be the name of our project!!!

New single – Shine:

For the moment we are promoting our latest release called Shine released August 13th.
This song has been with us as an idea for nearly two years under the work-title “Toolish” It started out with a drumbeat and a guitar-pattern with clear Tool vibes, but has over the time evolved into something quite different.
The Tool-reference might still be present in parts of the track along with hints of Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice in Chains. Giovanni Gagliano of Giventorock.com even spotted some 80`s Iron Maiden in there as he wrote:

“I can clearly hear lots of influences in this one as the intro reminds me of 80s Iron Maiden and the verses sound intense like the grunge era from the 90s.”

The song is about the fear of beeing buried among strangers in a graveyard far away from your homeground when you wish that your soul should be present and “Shine” among your loved ones on familiar grounds.

The track is quite complex as it starts out slowly and builds all the way trough to the end. Bob Legget of LA Musiccriticblog wrote:
“perfect for all you rock lovers, with elements of prog and hard rock from the 70s, 80s and 90s. We love the complex sound and hope to hear much more from this intriguing band. Check out “Shine.”

Or as Llewelyn Screen of A&R Factory described it:
“Shine‘ from the quality five-piece Norwegian rock band One and a half Dog, is a watch-me-do-something-special track”
